Are you a "Closet" wrestling fan?
« on: March 11, 2011, 01:24:55 PM »
I must confess that I don't share my guilty pleasure with anyone, and if it comes up in the course of a conversation, I downplay how much I know.

It's just hard to see how it could help either personally or professionally.

Not me. Everyone has their pleasure. Some people like to play checkers, some like curling, some like to watch Young & The Restless, I like wrestling.

When I was younger (Mid-Atlantic days) it was quite a stigma to be a wrestling fan.  I didn't care though.

I USED to love wrestling.

Now i just watch it every few weeks.

But its much like bodybuilding to me. I usually never bring it up in conversations and usually when someone else I know talks about it, Ill downplay my knowledge lol.

I've won plenty of fake arguments simply by applying the figure four.

If anyone wants to know, the reversal works as well.

This is the problem. People think that if you like wrestling, you believe it's real. It's just not worth explaining it.

Lol...I hear ya. I remember back in the day if someone like a reporter said that it was "fake", they got popped. Vader popped some dumb reporter in Kuwait back in 1996, Hogan put a tv talk show host in a head lock and squeezed so hard it caused permanent damage to the guys head causing Vince Jr. to pay the guy 450,000 to shut him up and who can forget David Shultz when he popped the idiot reporter back in 1984 not once but twice. Yes, it is a planned outcome and it is rehearsed but the bumps they take are not always comfy and cozy.

Was that the Richard Beltzer incident with Hogan?
I've seen clips of that and it looked pretty damn shady, IMO - like Beltzer did a little acting of his own.

As far as critics crying it's fake, none of them have ever taken even a basic back bump.
I learned falling & tumbling on a mat when I practiced martial arts in high school.
When I started bump training, although the pro ring was "softer" than dojo mats, I was about 40 lbs. heavier, and I quickly learned that you "feel" even the most perfect landings.

Even basic drills carry a risk, as I witnessed firsthand.

The notion that pro wrestling is all "fake" is as big a public misconception as steroids.
It's really amazing how misinformed the public is, and the conclusions they draw are completely unjustified and pitiful.

I can't remember the fellows name but Hogan demonstrated a hold on the guy and hurt him. Lawsuits came left right and centre and WWF (then) settled it out of court with the guy.

Looked somewhat harmless (like most injuries in sports) but when hogan jerked upward with that front facelock, he may have squeezed a tad to tight.

It's tough to say for sure, but I don't know that Belzer would have the balls to willingly crack his noggin open.

Hogan probably shit himself when he noticed the blood on the floor, although he kept his composure in the seconds following.
There are longer clips of this.
I'll have to watch one to observe his demeanor after reality had a few minutes to take effect.

Here's what the web according to Meltzer had to say....

"During that appearance, Hulk put Belzer in a chin lock and
accidentally knocked him unconscious. Mr. T's pathological inability
to stop talking trash about the incident inspired Belzer to sue Hulk,
Vince McMahon, and the WWF for five million dollars. They eventually
settled for an undisclosed sum, but it's said that Belzer was able to
use the money he got from Hogan to buy a chateau in France that he
referred to as "Chez Hulk". Unsurprisingly, around this time was when
Hulk and Mr. T parted ways for good.

The lawsuit between Hulk Hogan and comedian Richard Belzer was just
settled out of court. Hogan was being sued for five million dollars
due to an incident that occurred six years earlier on March 28, 1985
when Hulk Hogan accidentally dropped Belzer and busted his head open
just prior to Wrestlemania. The settlement although it was an accident,
is believed to be a very favorable settlement for Belzer, which was made
to keep Hogan out of the negative light."

IDK...
Sounds like an opportunistic fcuk-stick to me.
We can speculate direct pressure on the windpipe and maybe some pressure on Belzer's left carotid artery from Hogan's biceps, but...
Even if Hogan applied enough pressure (doesn't look it), does it appear as if Belzer was in the hold long enough (6-sec.) to pass out?

He came to awfully fast, as well.

I think this was gold-digging orchestration.

If so, it was done to perfection. I consider myself a semi-expert at chokes (Purple Belt BJJ under Renzo Gracie) and everything about Belzer's reaction, from his arms going limp, to his eyes rolling back, to his coming to as though he were awakening from a deep sleep was consistant with a guy being choked out.

Like Linda Hogan?  ;) Who never worked a day in her life and has a 40,000 dollar a month spending habit? Everyone is always looking for money. Makes me sick.

That pig is writing a "tell all" book about her life with Hulk. I'm sure she'll leave out the mansions, vacations, assistants, and thousands of other things she otherwise wouldn't have had.

Oh, good!
I was hoping someone with your background would weigh in.
I studied martial arts years ago, but primarily striking-styles with a little bit of Aikido, so my knowledge of choke maneuvers is "0" (actually, it may be in the negative range).

Did it honestly look to you as if Hogan cinched up?
He didn't seem to even straighten up much or lean back at all once the hold was hooked.
Also, I didn't see the muscles in his brachial region tense - which they would contract under the slightest bit of any kind/amount of pressure.

Notwithstanding Hogan's applied pressure, and given your experience, do you believe it was possible for Belzer to pass out the way he did in 6-seconds?
Conversely, is it normal for guys to come back to that quickly?

I'd like to know, because I've always wondered about the legitimacy of this incident.

I heard and I totally agree with your post. She even named her Yacht "Alimoney". She is a gold digger that will smear Hogan left right and centre.
