I am pretty sure we here in California are not in legit danger correct? The fallout will probably dissipate/lose energy traveling over land and water masses correct? Winds change? I mean a good friend of mine who is up on these kinds of things told me not to worry. THere isn't anything we can do anything right? I mean, unless I own a house that still has lead paint. What can we, in cali, do IF the worst happens and lethal radiation is heading this way?

From bbc.  :D

A second explosion has hit the nuclear plant in Japan that was damaged in Friday's earthquake, but officials said it had resisted the blast.

It's mean when you go those gay hip Sushi restaurant you might get a little gamma radiation flavor instead of wasabi.

 It did happen.

If BBC puts out a story it's a safe bet that it did happen. BBC doesn't just put out false stories.

They say it's hydrogen gas causing the explosions but where is it coming from? Is it a byproduct of the cooling process or what? Why are they unable to vent it before it ignites? That explosion is fucking humongous... that's a lot of goddamn hydrogen gas that went off.

I know next to nothing about nuclear engineering but seriously, this is making whoever runs that plant look like a complete amateur. I honestly didn't think catastrophes like these in a non soviet nuclear plant could possibly happen with the supposed expertise that runs it.
from incomplete data

As I said before, they are pulling a "Toyota"...in whic Toyota tried to hide the "unintended accelleration" issues with their cars (driver error).

Also, I was listening to CSPAN radio about the first nuclear plant, it fame online back in 1971, and it has no dome containment unit---which all new ones have...all the Nucleae Meltdowns happened with Nuclear Plants that didn't have a dome containment...

Basically, the Japanese didn't upgrade the design of the Nuclear Plant...
