I've sold many electronics on craigs.

There are 3 categories of buyers.

1. African scammers... these fuckers have really american sounding names like John Smith, Steven Jackson, William Brown ...etc. They will ask if the item is still for sale..even when the ad is like 20 minutes old. If you respond they will write you a long reply that they will have money in a few days via western union, wire transfer ..etc.

2. Idiot/lowball buyers. These fuckheads will either offer around 50% or even lower of the asking price ...depending on how dumb or ballsy they are. Or they will ask stupid annoying questions which are most likely in the ad already. ...huge waste of time

3. Legit buyers. These people will low ball you like 5-15% and will ask a quick legit question like what version, which generation, model number...etc.

3a. Legit buyer/ditcher ...this person offers you asking price and wants to meet asap. But they never show up at your agreed time and rendevous point. Then when you relist the item they will respond to the item again.

I'm over craigslist for many reasons. I still do some business on there but not the volume I used to.

My business right now is concentrated on amazon/ebay. I have many and many rants and raves with this shit.

Customer from the UK emailed me last night all pissed off. He said when he went to the post office to pick up the parcel he had to pay a fee. He said it was my fault because I didn't pay enough postage in the states. I informed him that it's called customs taxes...I wanted to call him a fucking idiot, but my feedback rating is too important.

Customer emailed me pissed off that the toothbrush heads he bought were too small. I told him to check the listing again and re read it again because the words "COMPACT toothbrush" was written in there no less than 3 times. I just refunded this asshole the money to avoid negative feedback.

Sold a macbook pro for $2,150 2 weeks ago on auction. guy wanted to cancel the transaction due to lack of funds. I asked him in he would go to apple store and try to buy the same item without his wallet. He never replied.

Fucktard emails me literally one hour after buying a breast pump...asking me if it was shipped yet. WTF
I mail all my shit 2-3 day priority and 75% of my feedback says something about how quickly I ship. He messaged me around a dozen times asking me where the fuck his breast pump was...even after I provided a tracking number.

Online sales are no different than retail face to face transactions. Some people are just so handicapped in regards to basic human life skills that it makes you wonder how they crawl out of bed each morning.

It's part of the biz though and I accept it now. But sometimes you come across a waste of human life that is so stupid it makes your blood boil...until you soothe your thoughts by realizing they're making you money.

Craigslist for beginners..

If you get any question about whether the "item" is still available... its a scam

If you do respond and you get a long story about how they are buying it for ____ but they are too busy to come in person and will arrange shipping if you take paypal plus $50 extra for your trouble ......its a scam

If you respond to any scammer with the understandable "your mother is a whore" you lose because you have just told them your email address vs. the craigslist anonymous address and you can expect more spam

Put instructions in your ad to specifically  state the item in the email or it will be deleted as spam.

Almost without exception any one liner is spam.. i.e. "what is the condition?"  "Do you still have the item?"  Legit buyers will write out an email with enough information that you can tell they have actually read your ad.

After a while, just like with everything else in life, you can tell who you are dealing with in a very short period of time.


Who can't spot bullshit? I know when a sale is coming together. I would rather take my shit and travel then have them come to my place. I sell to the highest bidder, so you have to learn to play the game.


No "gentlemans agreements" or handshakes. You can ask a limited number of questions and ask for a few more pics, but if you get annoying, its "adios"


I suppose the people who are desparate to make money on Craigslist have a whole other ballgame to play. Fuck that.
