wrong! I have a asked a few chinese to clarify this. I use to think like you, but they said that "Chinese" is accepted as a term for mandarin or "common language"

Finnish and English fluently, but i understand a little of: swedish, german, spanish. I used to speak those ok, but i didn't get to use them in a long time so i forgot most of it...

I speak 1.5 languages, spanish and trying to improve my english

. To be honest, a lot of getbiggers have a worst spelling than me, so I don't know if I'm really improving ma english ya know.

Then German, Russian, French, Cantonese, Japanese are all second tier languages.

If you're in the US. Learn Spanish. It is BY FAR the most important language to learn for Americans.

I'm studying Spanish right now. ALso speak a bit of Japanese, Korean, Thai and Mandarin, but just the basics.

I think everyone will be mandated to learn Chinese since they own all of the debt from other countries. It is only a matter of time before EVERYONE will be speaking Chinese.

my whole family is Portuguese im 100% but my grandmother taught me sorry if i spelt it wrong my family is from the azores Sau Miguel and yes just cause my family knew it i was able to learn

I want to say something here. Many people say that Spanish and Portuguese are very similar languages and if you speak Spanish then Portuguese will be pretty easy and vice versa. Well, that's NOT true at all. I don't understand not even one word in Portuguese. And I know some Brazilians living >6 years over here and their Spanish sucks really really bad.

yah i have heard this too an i agree my girlfriend is also Portuguese and she knows Spanish as well it aint easy

Well, it is not that much difficult to learn spanish when you have portuguese as your language, it is harder to learn french. Brazilians have a very strong accent, that is transmited to every language, other than portuguese, that they might learn and speak. Pretty much like the spanish people, they have an horrible english.
