About 30 people died, mostly the guys on duty at the time and they generally died from radiation sickness around 2 weeks later, a helicopter was also flown in and not told the radiation would fry the electronics in it...

Battle of Chernobyl

 Here watch this.

Pay extra attention to the end " 1:26:25 " and at "1:27:34 " attn to what Mikhail Gorbachev says.

" Chernobyl show us the true nature of nuclear energy in human hands...We calculated that our most powerful missile the SS18 was as powerful as 100 Chernobyl's the SS18 was the warhead that the Americans fear the most and we have 2700 of them... and this was the missiles intended for the Americans"

  Insane.

They did not save the world. The cats who responded to the accident saved 8k - 10,000 lives. They were crazy fuckers and they did some good work, but they hardly saved the world.

Next time when a situation like in Chernobyl occurs, the people like politicians and other scum have to clean that mess up.

Great idea.

This guy says it's time to use the "Chernobyl option" in Fukushima:

thank you for the link.
actually what he says at 1.45 is so spot on..unfortunately this is exactly the problem going on here now

wow great documentary. i definitly think  nuclear power is a bad idea unless they can 110% assure its safety wich i dont thinkk we are able to do. we are fucked

What is "safe" anyway? Particles and pollution from coal factories kill millions a year. Nuclear power plants usually 0.

yeah man but wars and terrorism can change all that, more likely a terrorist group plotting on a nuclear plant could be immense problems like a jet flying into it..

we just need to work on our technology. we need to work more on antigravity power. let me explain antigravity power

there should be a system of gears in place for wich lets say you push the peddle on a bike to create certain wattage

well the house you live in is pushing on the ground and THAT SHOULD be CREATING wattage but its not because there is no system of 'gears and peddles' in place, like an exercise bike powering system.

we need earth rods or earth beams that we shoot deep into the ground that gather pressure for electricity

foundations of houses or existing houses could be crane lifted/fitted to be sat on a spring loaded type mat that when pressed or sat upon generates a power

we need earth rods or earth beams that we shoot deep into the ground that gather pressure for electricity

or pressure meters or generators at fault lines or tectonic plate lines, it would probably work just as fine anywhere into the ground thus the weight of the earth would pressurize the line giving free energy

This is the truth!

USSR used many choppers to drop various things in to the reactor. I recall up to 80 -90 choppers were used.
Huge amount anyway...

Edit: Source says more than 90 helicopters were used in project. HUGE  :o

You seem to have a very poor understanding of how physics work.

They need a new Sarcophagus... price $2.21 billion
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Safe_Confinement

We aren’t finished with Chernobyl. The scientists admit that the sarcophagus which encases the damaged nuclear reactor is now cracking open and leaking out lethal doses of radiation. In 1988 Soviet scientists announced that the sarcophagus was only designed for a lifetime of 20 to 30 years. Holes and fissures in the structure now cover 100 square metres, some of which are large enough to drive a car through. These cracks and holes are further exacerbated by the intense heat inside the reactor, which is still over 200 degrees Celsius. The sarcophagus’s hastily and poorly built concrete walls, which are steadily sinking, act as a lid on the grave of the shattered reactor.

Only 3% of the original nuclear material was expelled in 1986, leaving behind 216 tons of uranium and plutonium still buried inside the exploded reactor, is a chilling reminder that the explosion was not the end, but rather the beginning. Chernobyl Reactor Number 4
Scientists now agree that this sarcophagus will eventually collapse, and when it does there will be an even greater release of radioactivity than in the initial accident.

 Inside the Sarcophagus

There are 740,000 cubic metres of lethally contaminated debris inside the sarcophagus, which is ten times more than was previously thought. Locked inside lies 30 tons of highly contaminated dust, 16 tons of uranium and plutonium and 200 tons of radioactive lava. The rain pours through causing corrosion, the weight of 3,000 cubic meters of water lodging each year further adds to the possibility of the roof caving in.

The result of the water and dust mixing is a dangerous radioactive ‘soup’. When the building became highly radioactive the engineers were unable to physically screw down the nuts and bolts or apply any direct welding of the Sarcophagus, this work was done by robotics, and unfortunately the result is that the seams of the building are not sealed thus allowing water to enter and radiation to escape on a daily basis. The problem of controlling the water and dust inside has never been resolved. This type of project has never been undertaken before and no one knows for sure if it will be effective enough to contain the radioactivity or what will happen in 100 years times.

The NSC originally expected the project to be completed in 2012 but there has been further delays. When completed it will be the largest movable structure ever built.

The New Safe Confinement structure will have a span of 257 metres, a length of 164 metres, a height of 110 metres and a weight of 29,000 tons.

Utterly insane. By the way, I was in the womb when this accident happened. By the way number two, Kaku needs psycho therapy.
