Libyans form human shield at Gaddafi's compound

TRIPOLI, March 19 (Reuters) - Thousands of Libyans packed into Muammar Gaddafi's heavily fortified Tripoli compound on Saturday to form a human shield against possible air strikes by allied forces.

Fireworks erupted into the night sky and people fired defiant shots into the air at the compound after allied warplanes went into action in eastern Libya to stop the Libyan leader's forces attacking the rebel-held city of Benghazi.

Libyans from all walks of life streamed into the Bab Al-Aziziyah compound, shouting slogans and holding portraits of Gaddafi. Loudspeakers boomed songs praising the leader.

Who says these rebels are the good guys?

I know Gadaffi is no saint but there's plenty of countries where loss of human life occured and no action was taken - Darfur for instance. There's plenty of rebel groups that the UN don't support - e.g. in Pakistan.

So - how is it that these rebels, in this place need protecting all of a sudden?

They're not good guys. Eastern Libya is a jihadist factory. Most people throwing their weight behind the Libyan rebels are uninformed morons living in fantasy land. We've been had by Europe and the Arab League.

Darfur was a tragedy that deserved intervention. Too bad the genocide was carried out by Muslims, who have 24/7/365 victim status and as a result are immune from criticism...and military intervention. The UN is the most pathetic organization on the planet.

Niall Paterson, defence correspondent, and Natalie Fahy An air strike has destroyed an administrative building at Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's residence, according to reports.

The news came as the White House said it did not recognise a ceasefire called by Colonel Gaddafi, and anti-aircraft fire continued in the skies above Tripoli.

The Libyan leader ordered armed forces to down weapons from 7.00pm, via a government spokesman at a press conference, but witnesses reported strong blasts and gunfire in Tripoli throughout the evening.

A 10 Downing Street spokesman responded to the Libyan announcement, following a meeting of the National Security Council, saying: "Everyone will recall that in recent days Colonel Gaddafi declared a ceasefire which was promptly violated.

"We said then we would judge him on his actions not his words - and we will do so again."

Seriously? then why did the operation only begin hours after Bama gave the ok? Another thing - Bama could not even get Brazil, Ger, Rus, Chi, on board for this. Even the Arab League who originallysupported it is now in revolt saying they were lied to by this admn.

Obama is doing this to help get the MB in charge of Lybia as well as other radical islamist elements, just like Egypt.
