UN Postpones Praising Gadhafi’s Human Rights Record
« on: March 22, 2011, 10:33:35 AM »
I guess the UN postponed praising Gadhafi's human rights record, because they were too busy concocting a slanderous report to justify what we are seeing happening now.

UN Postpones Praising Gadhafi’s Human Rights Record
Anger Over Massacre of Protesters Will 'Delay' Passing Report

Basic reason scored something of a victory today as the UN Human Rights Council announced that it was postponing the vote to affirm a report praising Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi’s regime for its human rights record.

The report (PDF) said that the Gadhafi regime protected “not only political rights, but also economic, social and cultural rights,” praised it for the nation’s treatment of religious minorities, and the “human rights training” received by security forces. It was to be approved at a vote later this month.

The report, of course, was written before the massive public protests against the Gadhafi regime broke out, and likewise before the regime started massacring protesters in the thousands nationwide.

The move to “postpone” the vote was met with some praise, but also prompted some to question why the vote was only delayed and not canceled entirely. The UN has not made it clear when the new vote would be held.

It's 100% true. I posted about it a few weeks ago.

The UN Human Rights Council is a colossal fucking joke and as big of an embarrassment as the previously discredited and disbanded "Human Rights Commission" was. Also to note is that Libya served in the chairman spot of that.  ::)

But it's not surprising given that the world's worst violators of human rights dominate the newest council. I'd bet my life that there won't be a single resolution condemning any of the egregious violations happening in the Muslim world right now.

This is what i hate about politics in general.  It goes the same way in the corporate world too as i have experienced many times.

It's the practice of compromise over principle.

I was asking for the link as per forum rules.
