NFL kickoffs moved up 5 yards - thoughts?
« on: March 23, 2011, 01:23:38 PM »
From the 30 to the 35, was this really necessary?  (thats a rhetorical question, newmom.)

It use to be at the 35 before moving back to the 30, so no big deal.

Actually it will be a big deal. Lol. It will effect the game dramatically.

What was wrong with the previous rule?

better not count on those return yards for fantasy this year fellas ;)

heard they were thinking about making the touchback on kick offs to come out to the 25 instead of the 20...

No way. They already declared that touchbacks will start at the 20 for next season.

We'll probably see a couple kickoffs go through the uprights this year.

You'll definitely see a lot less injuries next season with all of the potential touchbacks. Those special teams guys are fucking fearless streaking down the field at full speed. They're looking to blast somebody and cause a fumble.

Are there really a lot of injuries on kickoffs/returns?  I haven't noticed.

I see injuries happen pretty frequently on special teams. Everyone is moving full speed, especially punt and kickoff teams.  When a punt returner switches direction heading upfield and a gunner ends up getting earholed by a blindside block.

devin hester is cursing this rule...

I think it was fine the way it was, I doubt there were more or significantly more injuries on kick offs as opposed to passing plays.

do away with the 2 man wedge if anything but iono this changes the strategy of the game not just the play itself.

gay rule.  It's not like the guys cannot get to full speed within 20 yards anyway if the concern is injury from high speed collisions.  It's football not tennis.  ::)

it's just the owners pretending to care so that they can get the 18 game schedule approved. you think they really care about the qbs that much to make all those rules protecting them, yeah protecting their investment is more like it. the kickoff used to be from the 40 originally i think back when the nfl schedule was 12 games. in those days if the kicker could kick 50% he was considered good now it's more like 80 or your gone.
