Why do fit people die earlier than unfit people?
« on: March 30, 2011, 12:35:32 PM »
charles bronson, jack palance and jack klugman all started out in the business together. palance and bronson took good care of themselves both were fine specimans of american manhood until there deaths. klugman more or less lived like his odd couple character yet he still lives. also look at ernest borginine he was a whale on mchale's navy back in the 60's yet he might outlive jack lalanne . WHHHHHYYYY????!!!!!

You cannot compare yourself to any on individual. Maybe Jack Lalanne would have died years ago and remember that he died from pneumonia so if not he could have lived to 100+. Earnest Borgnine gives credit to masterbation for his long life. I personally don't think that being a little over weight as you get older is bad, in fact sometimes it's good for an older person to carry some extra weight in case they get sick they have some reserve.

All genetics is the reason.
that does play the major part but lifestyle has to figure in some. if both your parents lived well into their 80's should you be expected to live that long. even if you made some other lifestyle choices like steroids or street drugs or smoking or alcohol?

I'm afraid that is the case. Except when you overdose or something.

Agreed. Genes are the rule but if do drugs and shit it just cuts years off the original plan.

Is it really so? Like you are surprised if a skinny guy can bench 2 plates, aren't you surprised in the same way if an obese person lives to be 70.

On a group/ statistical level, fit people live longer. However, even better is the benefit regarding independent living and quality of life in old age if you keep fit.

On an individual level, luck (accidents, crime, exposure to pathogens etc...) and genes unfortunately obscures the statistically significant effects of keeping fit. ;-/.

Probably genetics.

But so what?

How do you want to spend your time here?

Being a lazy sack of shit or being as attractive and healthy as you can?

Your choice - quality of life.

For health and lonevity, the best thing to do is relax all day and treat your body really gently.

Exercising is actually not good for longevity, it taxes you r body in various ways. But it has it's benefits too.

If you want to live to be 100. The best thing to do is relax all day, eat healthy foods and take life slow.

It's mostly genetics though of course.

Bob Hastings, Voice of Commissioner Gordon, Passes Away at Age 89

Veteran screen and voice actor Bob Hastings has passed away from prostate cancer at the age of 89, ABC News is reporting. Hastings is best known to people of our generation for his portrayal of Commissioner James Gordon on Batman: The Animated Series and other Warner/DC animated projects. The actor also appeared on live action television programs like All in the Family and Green Acres, and McHale’s Navy on which he was a series regular. His televisual body of work dated all the way back to 1949 with an appearance on Captain Video and his Video Rangers.

Hastings’ voice work included portraying Superboy in various 1960s television cartoons, the voice of the Raven on The Munsters, and bit roles in Challenge of the SuperFriends. It was, however, his role as Commissioner Gordon that made his stern yet welcoming voice a mainstay to kids in the 1990s.

It was only two months ago that Efrem Zimbalist Jr., the voice of Alfred Pennyworth, passed away. Both actors imbued their respective characters with the kind of fatherly kindness that Batman needed in his life. Hastings’ Gordon, unlike Zimbalist’s Alfred, also had the everyman heroism that the character really needed. Until Gary Oldman’s portrayal in the Nolan films, and even still after, Hastings was the definitive James Gordon, not bumbling or useless like he’d often been depicted in the 1960s TV series or the Burton/Schumacher films. You always felt at ease when Gordon showed up in TAS and you felt like Gotham City was in good hands.

Doing too much running in your 50s is a great way to have a heart attack.
