What should I do?
Ask to be a soldier in the Union Army. The confederates were nothing more than today's democrats with yesterday's slave holdings. Today they call slavery by another term: Welfare.
The Union was the winning side because what it stood for deserved victory. The heroic Union solders fought not so much what was in front of them but for what was behind them. Family and principles that were near and dear to their hearts. Choose to be an American. Not a southern confederate that wished to remove themselves from the union of the states, but a member of that Union. Celebrate what we have in common, not what makes us "different". When you get right down to it, you're just playing a part. A role. The originals are all gone but the goodness of what was won remains.
After all, you will just be acting out history. Those people? They made history.
