Ron "Yogi" Avidan in the Ironman May 2011 issue
« on: April 02, 2011, 07:20:38 PM »
Lonnie Teper has a small section devoted to Ron in this month's Ironman Mag. No, I don't buy it, but I'll glaze through it when I have time to kill.

Lonnie say's that Ron has lost 25lbs. and that DNA Sports Nutrition is kicking some serious ass. Congrats to you Ron!

Lonnie makes the comment "I pulled a Shawn Ray on Ron" - I guess when they went to join their buddy for lunch Lonnie said "I drove, you pay..."

Nice little pic of Ron on page 179 of the May edition.

Cool beans. Cool, cool beans. I'm accustomed to seeing Ron in MD's expo shots, but not customarily in Ironman.

Is Lonnie Teper pretty cool peeps, Ron?  He seems like he could keep you rollin' on the floor if he wanted to. (In laughter, not man-love....  ;D )

No matter what people say about Lonnie, he's not gay and he's a genuinely good guy.

First of all, I want to thank LT for putting me in the Ironman Magazine (which I have NOT seen yet).  LT and I have been friends for about 12+ years, maybe more at this rate.  He stopped by at DNA Sports Nutrition, where I work, and we went to lunch. We take turns paying, which is fair.

I shoot for Getbig.com, Bodybuilding.com, Hardbody.com, IFBBPro.com, Flex Magazine, Ironman Magazine, NPC News Magazine and a few others, but not MD.  As you all know, I enjoy photography and have a lot of fun with it, both stage, paparazzi and photo shoots.  It is cool when someone says your pictures are cool, use them as 'profile' pics, or after a photoshoot, say that it was fun and relaxed.

Ys, LT is really cool. Quick on his feet, great sense of humor and wit, one of the best interviewers and emcees out there, and can roll with the waves (and have fun with things).  Not gay, has a cool girlfriend in which I have known for years, and like Isaac, myself and many others, enjoy the artistic physique shape of the opposite sex.

As for bodybuilders, it is what we do. We discuss, take pictures, and make it interesting and hype up the contests and the physique.  Why not?  It is fun.  So when we ask someone to list their shirt, it is to see their abs.  Simple as that.

I honestly can't understand people obsessed with bodybuilding that haven;t worked out a day in their lives, esp. skinny/fat middle aged guys that go to shows and openly drool over the competitors, just seems weird to me, if I didn't work out or exercise I would have 0 interest.  in anything related to bodybuillding, let alone going to shows and buying magazines.

All these guys, Lonnie Teper, Ron, Isaaac , Tre   , etc. etc.

it's just weird  to be so into something and not even  practice a fraction of it..ie. most soccer fans have kicked around a soccer point at some point in their lives..

What about NASCAR fans and wrestling fans and art fans... I mean... what about fans that are insane about the Rolling Stones and have every album? Do they have to play the guitar and sing to love them?

Your arguement= makes no sense.

See - here is the thing. None of us are 'obsessed' with bodybuilding. We enjoy it. Big difference. We are balanced.  Second of all, ALL of us have worked out at one time or another.  Isaac just spent 3-4 months training for his contest he competed this past weekend in Men's Physique.  Lonnie Teper, 20+ years ago, worked out religiously and looked great (I have seen pics).   Myself, 15+ years ago, went to the gym quite a lot, and used to go backpacking in the high Sierra's carrying a 70 pound backpack up above the tree line.  Not many people can say that they went down into the Grand Canyon, and then walked back all the way up with a backup. we also went to the top of Mt. Whitney, and up Half Dome and Upper Yosemite Falls in Yosemite.  All of these required leg and chest training, plus endurance.  Different type of training rather than bodybuilding.  One day will put up a picture (since back then weight 180 pounds)

So don't just assume you know - we have been in this for 15+ years or longer. I started in 1991 with American Body Building Products.

I know a guy that used to hike the Canyon once every two years. He would take off by himself and camp and all that. By the time he came back from his trip, he was almost unrecognizeable from all the weight he had lost. The hike would take him around 2-3 weeks.

I wish I could enjoy that type of thing, but I'm more comfortable in the city. I would have to have a guide and some motivation for that kind of adventure.

I think there are a lot of editors, photographers, advertisers, supplement manufacturers... they don't look like they work out currently, but they probably know more than many Pros ever will-- and not just about lifting weights, but nearly every aspect of the business.

Assumptions. We all make them, and believe ourselves to be correct, and rarely are we.

I have to specifically point out Ron's second paragraph as my reason for me being involved in the bodybuilding industry.  If you go to the shows and chat with people, you can make a decent income from it.  Because I went to so many shows and talked with folks in the industry like Tom Prince who gave me some great info to build up my supplement business, I was able to pay my bills after I was laid off from my job at Alltel.

I grew up lifting weights and reading Flex, Iron and Muscle Media like every other person up here but my efforts in bodybuilding were not Olympia caliber to say the least.  I know what Captain E is trying to claim and that simply isn't true.  I know from going to the shows and chatting with people that the vast majority go because they were bodybuilders, competed at one time as a bodybuilder, were friends and family of a bodybuilder, or aspired to be bodybuilders.

I've only ran into two people who were actual schmoes but those folks were photographers who tried to trick bodybuilders into "hotel room photo shoots".  They were thrown out immediately once they were found to not have proper press passes.

You folks needs to realize that most of the shenanigans that occur are worked out over the internet and done in a private setting....never at a bodybuilding show
