yeah, on one hand it does seem like a justification for steroid use, but correct and proper usage i think.

as far as the critics ripping this documentary to threads, were they ripping it because of the filmmaking technique or because of the "message" it was sending out that steroids done with doctor's supervision and done right are beneficial.

two things that stuck out in my mind watching this was 1) how pathetic and stupid politicians are! harry waxman the guy whose supposed to be "IN CHARGE" doesn't know the laws, doesn't know what the hell is going on and asking his page off camera the questions he is being asked? the politiicians almost crying in remorse how awful steroids have ruined america's past time and so on! are you fricking kidding me? hmm, let's all go get plastered at the d.c. bar after these hearings fellow congressmen and senators! then let's drive home drunk and while were still out of it the next day let's make some more laws that affect millions of people on stuff we have no knowledge of!

and 2) that boy's father the one that committed suicide ALL DUE TO HIS STEROID USAGE!? no offense, but just listening and seeing this father, he sounded and looked like one hell of a stern taskmaster, i'm sure it had nothing to do with the son feeling not worthy and having to live up to his father's ideal of success judging by the description of where they lived, the house they lived, the money they made, the competitive nature of the neighbors (the joneses and keeping up with them, etcetera)....

and of course it had nothing to do with the anti-depressants he was taking and how the father refused to for even 0.000001 percent think other factors were involved and how he skirted the question about "you find it ironic that cigarettes and alcohol that kills hundreds of thousands of people in this country is legal"?

sad to say it, but reminds me of those parents and their kids who commit suicide and they blamed it on the music they listened to and how it encouraged them to kill themselves. sorry but if your kid is going to kill himself because of lyrics to a song, that kids is waaaaaay more messed up before he or she ever heard this song!

Mentally strong people can take drugs - the others should stay away from them if possible.

starts at 1.09 with the dad talking about his 'screw up' son. here he actually foresees his sons death. which sadly came true. interesting scene though as the lad is a complete fucking moron. in his 30s and still dreaming of being a big star wrestler  ::)

The dad of the baseball kid is a fool.  His kid had problems way before he tried anything.

This is like my go to movie when showing people about steroids.

If you can't watch the scene of the baseball player's dad and be like, "Wait, you're not blaming the depression drugs?" There's bigger problems for you.

This is the single best commentary on American society that has ever been produced.

The baseball player's dad is the reason the kid killed himself, pretty easy to see.  That dad is a moron, and I love how when presented with logic (related to alcohol or depression meds) all he can do is delude himself and say "my son is dead."  What a fucking idiot, he deserves his guilt.

Maybe if the dad would have talked to his kid more, maybe if the dad would have not put all the pressure on the kid maybe if he would have told son its alright not to be good at everything maybe his son would still be alife.

My mom asked me recently what I want to teach my son who is nearly 2 years old and the question somewhat took me by suprise and the only thing I could think.of was that I to teach my son that it is okay to say no, even if everybody else says yes.

Spot on. The dude went into serious deflect mode as soon as the kid iced himself. Imagine this bastards ego to take it all the way to congress. Unbelievable.

ridiculous bunch of loose premises out of context and without any correlation to health and public impact..

it comes across as a justification for steroid use...not a proper objective commentary on drugs and politics.

no wonder it was torn to shreds by critics.

Ever since Chris Bell's brother died, though, you don't hear much about this documentary.  It was very well done.
