They just look like bloated waterbags except before a contest.

thats what people dont see- and even during contest they look bloated- all you ever see is when they are photographed posing.

take a look at one standing truely relaxed one time- not posing, not in a relaxed stance, but just standing there relaxed.

no thanks.

Being a successful pro isn't such a horrible life if you like working out. Look at Jay and Ronnie. They easily made over $200,00 just from posing on stage alone not counting the sponsorship.

You don't have to punch a clock and your day to day life is scheduled at your convenience. You can sleep in whenever you want or need to. I watched part of one of Jay's DVD series (it was the one where to lost to Ronnie for the last time). He just got done training one body part and said that now it was off to eat (one of I don't know how many meals) then tan, take a nap, eat again, spend some time on the computer answer email and run his business and then back to the gym to train another body part then eat, relax, eat again and then sleep.

Never a week goes by where I don't have to skip a meal and have to have a shake simply because I don't have the time. I just have the regular breakfast, lunch and dinner, with one more meal, my largest because I have more time, just before I go to sleep. How many here really have the time to sit down and eat 5-6 times a day "like you're suppose to"?

And imagine how less stressful you life would be, how better you would feel, how healthier you would be if everyday you got to spend a couple of hours to take a nap? And can you really consistently train effectively after a hard's day work? Or if you train before work then having to drag your ass out of bed at some ungodly hour drinking your breakfast to save time and try to crawl under a squat rack.

Think of all the things you have to do and cut back on just because you don't have the time? Just making your schedule at your own convenience and having a lot of free time is a luxury few of us have. Once Ronnie got out of the police dept. I think he went to bed at around 3:00 am and got up at noon which is probably what I would do as I'm much more of a night owl. I can't get to sleep until late but still have to crawl out of bed early moaning and bitching because I have to get to work or gym.

At $200,000+/yr I'd love to have the schedule and life style of a top pro bodybuilder minus all the drugs. Just for the afternoon nap alone.

Post of the year.

I want to keep my hair, most men eventually start losing hair, I'll rather start in my late 50's than in my late 20's even if I am going to lose it.
Maybe the drugs wouldn't make a difference, but if it did make me lose hair, it wouldn't be worth it for me.

Also if it made me grow thick hair on my back, shoulders etc......I don't want this.

And also a lot of guys I know who have used steroids look prematurely aged for some reason.

But if I didn't get any of these side-effects (and I know some people don't) then I wouldn't have a problem with at least trying a cycle.

Theres a difference between use and abuse.  The guys with mass side effects and aging are doing a shit load of drugs.  A few light cycles is nothing to be concerned about really.

Excellent post.

Add Desmond Miller, Munzer and Momo Benaziza to the list of pros that suffered medical consequences due to their drug use.

"1"
Add Capriese Murray, and Richard Jones didn't want to risk it...

only people who are not loved, have not been loved by their parents, cant/dont have significant relationships (girlfriends, wives, kids, parents, grandparents) with others are ok with shortening their life span in order to get more superficial attention from strangers than they do at the moment.

Does "living the dream" equals "being big" (on steroids, something you have to stop at some point), impressing some losers with a lower self esteem than yours, and being the laughing stock of most people who cross your insecure, immature ass path ?

Newsflash you can live the dream working any kind of job, if living the dream means earning decent money to you. This desire lots of you have to impress others, prove things to them with your physique is just pathetic. We all end the same way, old and scrawny, and we all wish we could give and receive.

Well why be suprised most on here are egocentrical, ignorant, frustrated, unloved lonely individuals who had no father figure? This is the main target the whole bodybuilding thing is aimed at. And there's always a wealthy, educated, fat cynical family man coming from a stable family on top making money out of these people's insecurities. You guys are ignoring a whole part of life, the part you mostly have been unable to know because of your own parents; being loved by a family.

Wes, Stavios, are your parents still together?  :-\

But they are the cream of the crop - it's not as easy for others.
The constant eating when you're "touring" must also be a pain in the ass.

There's a difference between just wanting superficial attention and wanting to really accomplish something in life. And I mean really leave a mark. Knowing that when they leave this planet they will be remembered. Maybe even make history. When a person is driven chances are he won't be living the healthiest of lifestyles. That could be putting your body through things that no normal person would even consider or simply working long hours for years on end running a business and building an empire, inventing something that will revolutionize mankind or even finding the cure for some disease.

If a person's idea of going through life risk free and concerned just about longevity and even health probably isn't going to achieve greatness. Of course, you can make the argument that even these driven individuals also seek the attention to compensate to whatever is lacking in their lives but just on a grander scale. I mean, why should a person care that they are admired after they are dead? But my feeling is thank God for these obsessive, driven, attention seeking maniacs. Imagine a world without them? No great achievements. Everyone just following nature's plan of making a comfortable living, raising a family, and dying a peaceful death looking back on your relatively uneventful life. Not to in anyway diminish such a life. But I'm thankful that they are always those who march to a different drummer and try to break out of the pack regardless of what motivates them.

Arnold would never have been Arnold if it wasn't for bodybuilding and his need for attention, power and admiration.

everything is theorical in most human sciences related fields... be it psychanalysis, psychology, anthropology, sociology etc

I'd say to be a happy animal a human being has to fulfil everything his animal nature requires; being the best, most dominant among his peers -depending of his inner capabilites inherited from his ancestors- . Being satisfied sexually, being able to raise kids with the best female your beauty, muscularity and intelligence can get you, being satisfied by your social, working position, and ultimately feeling like you re contributing not just to your family, to yourself, but to your race / specie.
