I'd like to rant about bodybuilder wannabes and other goons in the gym who do plenty of olympic lifts in their training programs.  These guys use the excuse of "powerlifters are BIG!" as their sole reason for training with weight that's way too heavy for them for low reps...because powerlifters are big.

Well.  I tell ya what.  I'm all for keeping basics like benches, squats and deads in a bodybuilding program...that's smart.  But going for singles, doubles, triples...wtf?

There's a reason you never see a ripped powerlifter.  Train like a powerlifter, look like a powerlifter.  Train like a bodybuilder, you'll look like a bodybuilder.  For some reason you just never see these guys in the gym dieted down, nor do they look anything other than a big bulk of mass.

At least be honest with yourself and admit that you train for strength and not much else.  That I can respect.  But shitting on bodybuilding methods because so-and-so powerlifter has with huge legs trains heavy with low reps is foolish.

That is all.

All wrong.

It's all in their diet. My old training partner was a amateur pl and liked to stay leaner. I still like to train with a modified pl routine when the bb routine gets stagnant.

Powerlifters don't perform OLY lifts.

Do you even know what an olympic lift is?

There are exceptions. The guys in restricted weight classes are forced to be lean. Most heavies aren't lean though, and I believe it stems more from than just being lazy in the dietary department.

Give more credit and benefit of doubt where it's due.

Most here that call someone at fatass that can handle 2-3 times their weight won't hold much weight (no pun) to their opinion. Walk the walk first.

I have no interest in handling that much weight, I work out to have flexibility and be [somewhat] healthy and fit not to walk around like a retard with a t-shirt that says part of the 405 club or some cheesy shit like that, who are you kidding dude, what role does squatting 650 have in today's society ?!! I'm pretty confident I could put said man in a coma with a few well placed strikes, if not he'd probably have a heart attack trying to hit me while I run circles around him :)

Powerlifting fucks up your body. Injuries happen a lot.

Bodybuilding style training is a lot more healthy and safe. You can bodybuild until you're 60 with no injuries if you do it wisely.

Powerlifting is Kamikaze. You just wrecklessly lift insane weights with disregard for health.

  Not really.

Many sports MIGHT give you some injuries if you do it for a decade or more.

In powerlifting all it take is a split second mistake and you'l be fucked up.

I've been bicycling for 15 years and havn't got injured yet. Besides when I crashed and broke my hand.

I played baseball for 10 yars and never got injured at all.

 Well I was being stupid.

I was bombing down a steep hill at about 35 mph and lost control.

Bicycleing is very, very safe if you just control your downhill speed.

I see your point though. Every sport carries SOME risk. Even walking down the street carries a risk. The question is, how much?

And powerlifting is a lot more risky than most other sports.

No.

 Sure dude  ::)

Explosively lifting 3x your body weight is perfectly safe. Trying to lift like 800 pounds, no problem, it's as safe as a game of chess. Nodody ever gets injured doin that....

By the way. Didn't you fuck yourself up last year trying to flip a tire?

One time I had pin-lock dumbells. The pin came off while I was doing dumbell presses and a bunch of 5 pound plates smashed my face. Luckily it didn't break any bones in my face just gave me a black eye and cut me.

ALso i've minorly pulled muscles a few times.

 That's it.

 I was 17 years old.

Back then I used 45 for dumbell presses.

That's a normal weight.... for us non-obese people.
