Sarasota Mayor pays tribute to murdered British students

a couple of british university students somehow wound up in a gangland area of sarasota, florida, and got shot dead by a 16 year old kid. what they were doing there, fuck knows! it's all a bit of a mystery so far.

what i find staggering though, is how this kid had such a low regard for not only their lives, but his own. how can an american be so hopelessly lost in life that he doesn't care that he may now be facing the death penalty for two totally pointless and senseless murders. sad really

 Lots of American people do really wreckless and pointless shit. Take big risks with the law even if there's nothing to gain really. In most other countries i've lived, the people are a lot more worried about the law. In most Asian countries the people won't even steal money they find on the ground because they are so afraid of getting arrested for stealing.

 In the USA many people see going to jail or prison as a normal phase in life. They see it as something they were destined to do. In lots of circles, if you havn't been locked up everyone will think you are a little bitch, so they see it s a right of passage into adulthood.

I've never touched a drug in my life, but thanks to living in sarasota ten years back, and the abuse of others around me, I spent way more time in newtown than I would have preferred. 

Nobody accidentally stumbles into Newtown.  You get off 41 and you intentionally drive into the ghetto where people are carrying bats and pounding on your car door to buy dope.  You ignore all the signs saying "GTFO of here" cause you wanna buy dope.  Sad, but they were buying drugs, IMO, without a doubt.

sarasota is a very nice place, for the most part.  the local law enforcement has chosen to isoate the drug element in a very concentrated area.  They took praise and heat for this move.  Destroy 1/10 of the town to keep the other 90% nice.  Think "hamsterdam" from The Wire. highly racially segregated, highly income segregated.  You have nicole kidman and other millionaires living on Siesta Key... then you have people beating on your car in Newtown, just a 12 minute drive away.  Zero law enforcement in newtown and you can't sneeze without a ticket in the nice area.

well look at the prisons if their not white collar country club, then their supposedly hardcore, but the only hardcore about them is the fellow inmates,

you still get meals, tv privilege, reading material, exercise priviliges, don't have to worry about being executed in alot of states and even in the states that you do have the death penalty, years and years of lawyer wrangling and appeals means you can continue to live for years.

so for alot of these people prisons are actually a step up from how and where they live now.
