Anyone start chest with flies?
« on: April 22, 2011, 06:35:21 AM »
I say jay cutler do this in some of his vids, where he started his chest training with flies.

he said some bullshit about expanding the muscle with flies then fill it up with presses.

anyway, i tried this a few times, and even though you can't press as much on bench, it really made my chest super sore the next day (not sure if that equates to more mass or not).  wonder if anyone else experiemented with this technique?
you are gay.

i agree with chick that flies are as dangerous as flat bench as far as pec tears go.  take a boat load of drugs like chick in retirement and do machines, let the drugs stimulate muscle growth.  ::)

The pump is unbelievable. Same with shoulders; did lateral raises first and then presses... AWESOME SHIT MAN!!! I think Jay did that also... (not that I did it because of Jay but it sound reasonable to pre-exhaust muscle a little before heavy compound movements)

hahaha!

anyway, flies are safe if you keep the weight resonable (like 50-55 pounds) and get a good stretch and good contraction, no need to do flies with 90lbs...

x2.

You can tear a muscle on anything, it doesn't matter what exercise and it doesn't even matter the amount of weight.

Soreness is because of the stretch, nothing to do with building more mass.

The Pre-exhaust system has been around since the 60's & probable before. Doing an extension exercise before the bigger push/pull exercise. With flys you want to tire the pecs to their limit, than switch to the bench (or incline/dips, etc) and with the help of the triceps and delts , push the pecs to work even more.

Good theory for BB'ing. Some confuse Pre-exhaust with SS's. But a lot of different training systems can go by different names today.

Can do quads with with leg extensions first than squats. Delts: lateral raises (strict) with press behind neck. Lats: straight arm pullover than lat pull down/rows/etc.  Lots of combo's. Surprised it's not used than much now. BB'ing is very trendy, so maybe it will come back big time again. Good Luck.

Pre ex works well, as long as it isn't done for prolonged periods.

That's why periodization  can be an important factor in any well thought out, long range, workout plan. Usually 6 to 8 weeks (sometimes 12 weeks max) on any protocol and than a week off for rest, and on to another training system. Good Luck.

Great way to pre-exhaust your pecs especially before doing bb bench press. You handle less weight but the muscle contraction you get is awesome.

wasn't it torn on a 600lbs bench attempt? that's what I read anyways.

In my opinion, FLAT DUMBELL FLYS  are one of the best exercises for chest. Dumbell training for chest works very well for me. Ive also noticed that i get better results by doing FLYS before a pressing movement. I remember just a month ago, all i did for chest one day was flat dumbell flys and flat dumbell press and good results afterwards, my chest felt pumped/full.

And keep a decent bend in your arms.
