Lower back pain from squatting...
« on: April 23, 2011, 11:38:14 AM »
I am back to squatting after years of not doing it, about 12 years...I had a heavy squat session lastnight, and my lower back is still sore...I do have an old back injury so not sure if the soreness is from that, or is it a to be expected soreness....Any of you king of squats have lower back pain soreness the next day?

you should be able to understand if it's pain from your injury or from muscle soreness

Maybe is lower back pump? If so, its nothing serious.

I always have those when squating.. or when doing suff like bb rows.

If your injury was 12 years ago, the pain isn't from that injury, its either 1. Just DOMS from not having a load on it for a while or 2. Too fast of a progression (or in your case no progression) and not warming up correctly and long enough.

The injury is from about three years ago...From what you just mentioned, its probably a mix of both points you made...I definetely am not feeling the sort of pain that has me not being able to straighten my back upright...If i did not have an injury to worry about, this pain i feel i would not put much thought into most likely...Thanks for input Coach...

Front squats.

I've switched to these exclusively for the moment.  Back squats put too much pressure on my womanly neck.  Feels better on my lower back and lets me go harder on deads without worrying if I'll be able to squat in a couple days.

I have been doing a three-day split (legs-push-pull, repeat) and take random days off.

How do you push after front squats? Every time I front squat my delts are so f'ing sore for days after I can hardly press anything......not to mention the bruises on the collarbone and the choking from the bar. ::)

To simulate a squat without a load on the spine, we use a trap bar.

My delts never really get that sore (they also aren't all that big!)

I usually don't freeweight squats, for reasons of safety, many times I am the only one in the joint.

Chaos is right. lighten the load, keep body tight.

Keep a big chest and DONT lean forward.

You'll be fine, squats kick ass, keep doing them!
