It's actually pretty easy to squat with no hands. One plate a side is unstable, but with 2-3 the weight sits stable. I tried it for fun as well.

Try it with 100 kilos. One guy each side to spot you. It's a pretty fun experiment.

Exactly, As long as you flex your traps and lean a little forward it's pretty stable.
