Dietary supplement maker CytoSport Inc. accused rival Monster Muscle Inc. on Wednesday in a California federal court of infringing trademarks for powdered nutritional supplements sold under the Monster name.
The complaint claims Monster Muscle is attempting to trade on CytoSport’s reputation built through its Monster family of products sold for use in bodybuilding, including CytoSport’s Monster Food, Monster Milk, Monster Mass, Monster Amino, Monster Maize and Monster Pump.
Monster Muscle’s trademark infringement begins with the Melville, N.Y.-based company’s registered domain name,
www.monstersfood.com, which is virtually identical.
