Recently Time magazine did an article explaining what most scientists believe, that by around 2045-2050 there will exist the technology to stop us aging and likely reverse aging, meaning we wont die, cancers and diseases will be eradicated meaning that unless you have an accident, your living forever, or unless man destroys earth, the solar system we move in to etc. With that in mind will you not be kicking yourself if you reach say 2035 and you have a year to live,  if you've given yourself cancer from smoking?Liver disease from drinking?Fuck up your kidneys with bodybuilding drugs?Shortened your lifespan by 20 years by gorging large amounts of food and drugs?Just something to think about with this "your only young once" very backward and not forward way of thinking, the next 50 years will likely eclipse the previous 10,000 in scientific evolution.

Very unlikely. Even if such technology existed by then only the super rich would have access to it.

Think about walking up to someone in 1960 and whipping out an iphone, telling them its more powerful than the largest computer they currently possess, then tell them in the time you are from it can be bought with the average weeks wages, their minds would likely not be able to comprehend it.

Won't be allowed to happen.

Technology is quite a different animal than biological advancement.

Probably won't happen so soon. Even if it would be otherwise possible, stupid 'ethic codes' stop the developing of such a technology...
It will happen at some point. Would happen even soon if allowed. Now we won't allow even fkin' cloning humans - it would pretty much be possible already.

I would with no hesitation take part of such a treatment. I hate aging. I've hated it since 15.

If that is the case we will have to start populating other solar systems soon like the moon and Planet Falconia 8)

Yeap, like President Nixon declared publicly that cancer would be curable within the next 5 years. That was in 1971. ;)

"Here's what the exponential curves told him. We will successfully reverse-engineer the human brain by the mid-2020s. By the end of that decade, computers will be capable of human-level intelligence. Kurzweil puts the date of the Singularity — never say he's not conservative — at 2045. In that year, he estimates, given the vast increases in computing power and the vast reductions in the cost of same, the quantity of artificial intelligence created will be about a billion times the sum of all the human intelligence that exists today."

"For example, it's well known that one cause of the physical degeneration associated with aging involves telomeres, which are segments of DNA found at the ends of chromosomes. Every time a cell divides, its telomeres get shorter, and once a cell runs out of telomeres, it can't reproduce anymore and dies. But there's an enzyme called telomerase that reverses this process; it's one of the reasons cancer cells live so long. So why not treat regular non-cancerous cells with telomerase? In November, researchers at Harvard Medical School announced in Nature that they had done just that. They administered telomerase to a group of mice suffering from age-related degeneration. The damage went away. The mice didn't just get better; they got younger.

A portable phone/computer is not very far fetched, we were suppose to have flying cars by 2010.  Modern medicine doesn't even have a grasp on the human brain, I wouldn't cross my fingers on life extension.

Computers are a poor metric for this conversation anyway.  CPU power grows exponentially in time, medical knowledge does not.

Not very far fetched?lol the iphone looks and performs better than the computers on the starship enterprise, instead of flashing lights it has a touch based screen that shows high quality graphics and able to make video calls, track where you are, play music etc, even kirks flip voice thing sucked compared to it, that was the best they could IMAGINE in that time.

Yes, further reducing labor prices due to increased competition.

So in 50 years, our big accomplishment was an iphone?  We better pick up the pace if you're expecting life extension technology in 40 years.

Except tech improvements arnt linear, progresses stack on top of each other leading to far more than say a 1% increase in overall improvement per year.

You realize the world is running out of food and water and fossil fuels right? The LAST thing you are going to see is a cure for the aging process. We would completely overpopulate the planet within 20 years flat.
