Shawshank Redemption on AMC. Whenever it's on, I can't turn it off. One of Hollywood's all-time best.

Starz and Encore were on free preview last weekend. I got to see the premiere of Da Vinci's Demons as well as the Finale of Spartacus.

The one movie that I had not seen until now was Kill The Irishman. I liked how the news and interview footage was used in it. It had some great humor too.

Just watched The Assassination of Jesse James again. Man, epic! By far the most underrated movie of this century.

Saw the remake of Oldboy in Ottawa, 2 weeks ago. Not bad, but not anywhere as cool as the original. Josh Brolin was fine as the protagonist but lacked the true incentive for revenge. The Korean guy just brought it. Oh, and the hammer scene that was so awesome in the original just failed this time. Spike? No donut. And, the ending was just as lacking as the Korean one. 7/10

Watched a movie called The Guillotines a few days back, brilliant. Its a Chinese film set a couple of hundred years ago, theyre a team of unknown assassins that are betrayed by the Emperor they kill for a serve. Well worth a watch.

I might be the only one who didn't like the original. Watched it twice, but couldn't get into it.

Assassination Games starring Van Damme, pretty decent film by all accounts.

"The Wolf of Wall Street"

fantastic..DiCaprio is one the greats of our time

Read some not so flattering reviews of this film. Also, why is it 3 hours long?

You can read negative reviews of ANY movie. By and large, I think the reviews have been very positive. It's got 8.7 stars out of 10 on IMDB right now. That's very high.

The 3 hours go by fast. The movie is great and my guess is that Leo DiCaprio is getting an Oscar nomination for his performance as Jordan Belfort.

You are right, there is always a critic with a bad review. The critic writing the review I read did a good job explaining why they thought the movie wasn't great. That doesn't mean their opinion is correct or that others wouldn't have a different opinion. It is, after all just one critic's view and as you've pointed out, other critics might feel differently.

The warewolf, mystic river were my last two. I really liked MYSTIC RIVER.

Fantastic film.  Sean Penn = Great actor

Watched Captain Phillips last week ~ VERY INTENSE.  Tom Hanks = Great actor

Saw American Hustle this week   :-\ really  ???
There's nothing uniquely American about the hustle or the characters, and there's nothing profound embedded in the film's plot. It's a fun caper with good performances by the whole cast ~ good, not great, not Academy Award-worthy. Overrated.

Looking forward to seeing Lone Survivor and 12 Years a Slave soon.

28 Weeks Later. Not as scary as 28 Days Later but a lot darker.
