This is true for older diesels. Newer ones are quiet and do not have to be plugged in. Also for every gallon you burn you get further than a gallon of gas would get you, which makes up for the higher price.

Go try a new Volkswagen or Mercedes diesel at the dealership, you'll be hard pressed to find a difference in their gas counterpart.

my mom has an 81 diesel, fucking thing does run like a champ. My grandfather RIP owned an 87, barely drove it. Sitting in the storage with 45k miles on it only and the spare tire in the trunk is the original and never hit the ground. I drive it every blue moon just to give it time to run.
