As a down payment?








If you mean period then i would look for something that would last me a while,  since odds are money would be tight.  Something like a Honda Civic or Honda Accord.  Always good long lasting cars that are very reliable.

the way I read your question is only 10k to buy a car.

Certified used Honda. 98 civic is still kicking strong and love my 2010 accord. I doubt I'll own anything other than a Honda

I agree, the Civic is a fantastic transportation appliance. The Toyota Corolla and the Honda Civic are solid buys and you can turn them over for nearly what you pay for them if you keep them in good shape.

Hell, you can buy me 1994 Jeep Wrangler for $1k....however, you'll have to say a quick prayer before each turn of the key. No A/C, turn signals, radio, windshield wipers, back or rear windows, horn, heat, seatbelts, or parking brake... :-\

It's also sat without windows through 2 hurricanes and stinks like hell. A squirrel jumped out of it the other day and a few birds have actually flown into it while driving! The drivers seat is rusted out and is propped up with a busted tackle box and other trash, bottles, etc...it hasn't been properly washed since 1998.

So, whaddya think?

There are tons, literally tons of mid 90s civics running strong. I know a guy who has 96 Civic, and will not give it up...

For 10k, since you are in the Ireland, your options are prolly limited to Ford Fiesta, Focus, and that midsize one, I forgot the name---but it has a really good chassis. VW golf, polo, new beetle, Lexus IS200/IS300, Toyota corolla, Yaris, Honda Civic, Fit, Accord, Fiat 500, Mercedes A, B class.

Yeah, we never had the proper Escort hatch but when they made the Focus at least we got it as an option.  If you live in the country and could use it also look at the Toyota Hi-lux, indestructible, taliban approved.

Depends... probably a used Matrix or Civic . . . though I am not sure what used cars (and model years) are available at that price point.

when i was a student i had a 10 year old nissan altima, bought it for $3,000, and would spend about a grand a year on maintenance, it was a good car, the only downside was a wide turn.

later i 'upgraded' to the subaru outback sedan V6, exactly like here but without the spoiler

Got it in one Lambo.Changing soon to the new Porsche 911RS Only 600 being made so a little more collectible.And also a lot cheaper.
