save your knees, cycle instead, man i have to get back into cycling but it's like 20k ride to work and i'm crawling out of bed these days. I have two bikes a mountain and a road - the road one needs knew wheels, so I ride the mountain bike - it is enjoyable if you're in shape.

ROFL! I have a french friend here in Poland and he is an amateur cyclist, wasn't good enough to turn pro, but he does compete on the amateur circuit. Anyways, I think that cycling can be a decent training method, depending upon your goals. What exactly are you wanting to accomplish with your "cycling" endeavors, ma man?

 I love cycling.

My biggest rides were South to North across the state of Oregon, and from San Diego to Yuma AZ.

I didn't have a car for a long time and I just rode my bike everywhere. Even if I do have a car i'll ride my bike for short trips and for fun.

I have a lot of respect for people who get off their lazy ass and ride somewhere instead of driving.

In the US I have a 2004 Hardrock Sport in storage. Worth about $500 new. Great lightweight offroad bike. That's what I used for my long distance trips.

Over here I just ride a piece of shit I bought for 150 bucks.

500 or 600 is enough to get an awesome bike. Any more than that and your not getting too much more value for your money in my opinion.

I was in your position 2 months ago.  I wanted to spend around 700 on a good mountian bike.  I ended up getting a trek fisher marlin 29er.  Its a great bike the new 29 inch wheels make all the difference.  You should go check one out.

I have a Trek hybrid.  It's great for road and trails.  The trails can either be paved or gravel or dirt, so it works well for everything.

man, you need to upgrade to one of those carbonfiber bikes with hydraulic suspension, disc brakes, and paddle shift automatic transmissions...

That looks a little lightweight for the type of riding I do, but it's hard to tell.  :-\

Mine is similar to this

Raced BMX (bicycle motocross) as a kid. Deveolped much of my back and legs from it. Currently have 5 bikes. Vintage 1977 Schwinn Stingray. Spooky Cycles Metalhead. Sinister DNA (just bought). Vintage 1982 CW 26"Cruiser. Sold my road bike but will buy another soon.

200lbs and 5'10"

Riding is great and much better on your knees.

For 700$ range I'd go hard tail specialized or ghost. You'll get a damn good bike for your money.  I hit black runs on mine twice a week nothing beats a morning out on the bike.  1 hour uphill climb then 5 mins professional downhill.

I'm into bicycling.

I've been racing for almost 20 years now. (track, road, mtb endurance, road time trials)
