Tears!!  Loved it!

Seems like a funny and romantic guy.

In the middle of it I stopped it to say goodbye to my husband as he went to work.  My car was in the driveway so I said, "Don't hit my huge car!" and he said, "We had to get you that car because it was the only one with enough foot room."  And I laughed and he said, "Yeah, you're the only one laughing while the rest of us are crying."

I guess one out of two ain't bad ;D

what makes you think they will get divorced?

More than half (over 50%) of marriages end in divorce.

Statistically the odds are against them.

Still, we are creatures of the moment so I hope they enjoy the moment.

LOL i know weve had this conversation at least a handful of times bro

as someone who fancies themselves an intellectual you should really try to refrain from spewing such garbage.

do you know how they get that 50% number?

the actually divorce rate is far below 50% so the odds are very much in their favor.

I'm surprised how quickly she picked up on it.

I don't fancy myself an intellectual; it is a label others give to me. I don't really like it.

There are various statistics, not just one set, and they seem to support the over 50% number.

Why do you say it is garbage?

Of course there is an even more salient point; these days marriage is a bad deal for a man, who usually ends up losing financially if divorce ensues.

LOL ill give you the man angle but the 50% agle again is totally false. Please give me these various statistics that support the 50% number...

again do you know how they get the 50% number?

if you dont know that then you should really look into it and youll understand why that isnt a credible statistic.

Well here are some from  http://www.divorcestatistics.org/ :
Quote
Divorce Statistics in America
Current divorce statistics in America is estimated at 50%. This data is not accurately correct, however, it is reasonably close to actual. The Americans for Divorce Reform estimates that "Probably, 40 or possibly even 50 percent of marriages will end in divorce if current trends continue.", which is actually a projection. Commanly said, 50% of all marriages in the America end in divorce. But this statement about the divorce statistics in America hides all the details about distribution, however. You also checkout this divorce statistics page for latest information.

http://divorce.lovetoknow.com/Divorce_Statistics

Just click on the links, the other info is there.

There are plenty of others. I admit to citing the incorrect number. It appears to be roughly half (50%), also modified by what age the people get married at and sex (women initiate divorce more often than men).

So give them a 50/50 chance.

the way they get the 50% number deicide since you seem to not want to find out how. Is they take the number of divorces in a year and divide that by the number of marriages in a year...

now you can certainly understand how that can skew the outcome and give you a result that is at best a talking point for ppl who rail against marriage. When in fact it is simply a number that has no real correlation to the actual divorce rate. The actual divorce rate was in the 30's last time i checked but that was a while ago.

either way its no where near 50%...

I have seen other statistics that suggest that religious people divorce at a higher rate; either way, it's inclusive and tells us nothing about whether lack of religion or religion helps or hurts.

I have seen other statistics that suggest that religious people divorce at a higher rate; either way, it's inclusive and tells us nothing about whether lack of religion or religion helps or hurts.

I read an article that discussed this, and it turns out those statistics came from the South East of the USA.  They noticed a high divorce rate in that area, and knowing that the South of the US is very religious, they concluded that religious people have a higher divorce rate.

But the article explains why this conclusion is wrong.  Poverty and lack of education is already known to have far more to do with high divorce rates than religion does.  Religion actually decreases divorce rates.   The South of the US is known for its poverty and lack of education.  That is most likely the cause of the high divorce rate in that area of the country.
