I'm going with the B.S. claim too. Not on Hackenscmidt's part, but I do think on the part of the book, original reporter, etc.... I've seen various pics thoughout his career reporting him in the #190's-220's. These pics fit better with the #190 weight. Still a top guy for the time.

he looks to be around 80 kilo's to me...
he is 1,75..... so about 80 kilo's at that conditioning is very respectable!
if heavy bones... might be a bit heavier.... but 83 at the absolut max....

yates is 5'10 or about there. That is about 1,80.

Doubt he was 99 kg's maybe heavily bulked up/fat off-season or something?

Anyway, about heavy bone structures.....I remember reading an article before about a woman who herself and her family had very heavy bone structures. And it would confuse people whenever she got on the scales.

It's some kind of medical condition where the bone density is abnormally high and thus very heavy.

I remember at the time I was interested in learning about bone density, as I personally believe this is the main factor in determing natural strength. Not bone size, but bone density.

Ok, I tracked down a source for the #220ish bodyweight, that was his billed westling match weight, so it was 99.9% bullshit most likely. Better accounts put him in the #200 range lean, but not ripped.

Do any of you realize that the "Hack Squat" was named after him? He did it REAL old school style though by holding a barbell behind his butt.
