Late 20's early 30's can't remember exact date, Stalin and Hitler signed an agreement not to attack each other.As the result Hitler turned his back on the Soviet Union and went ape shit on Europe.

Soviet Union built tanks that were made to go on German highways, there were not very many roads like that at the time in the Soviet Union.

USSR trained over a million paratroopers, something you need when you want to attack someone and is just about useless in defending a territory.

Soviet Union started organizing their troops closer and closer to the border, which was actually the main reason Hitler was able to get so deep into
Russia once he attacked, there was no cushion to defend from.

Stalin had spies in the German army, one of the things he was concerned about was the type of oil lubricants that the Germans were using for their weapon arsenal, he needed to know when they would switch to a lighter lubricant suitable for cold weather indicating Hitler's intent. When Hitler realized what was going on he didn't have time to switch over and went into Russia anyway. Remember how you heard about the German army "freezing" in the cold? It wasn't just a lack of warm coats.

Unofficial, (as in can't be historically proven fact): The dates between Hitler's attack on the Soviet Union and Stalin's planned attack on Germany were only about a month apart.
