Freaking Seizure

Anyone ever suffered a seizure, i had grand mal (tonic-clonic) seizure about 8 months ago at age of 27. I thought it was a one off thing after completely normal EEG and MRI of my brain.

However, on Monday i suffered another grand mal seizure - lasted only a minute and had major aura about 30 seconds before that something was wrong. This sucks real bad and they have put me on anti-epileptic-drugs which luckily don't seem to have really any sides with. Just waiting to get new tests done to see if there is any problem with my brain.

Anyone had this shit happen to them?? Keep in mind not one person in my family has suffered from seizures not even the elderly members of my family.

I work with a lad who suffers these from years of alcohol abuse,and usually gets them in the pub, so he just gets himself another pint to cover up the embarassment  :-)

No i didn't piss myself just severe tongue bite. Apart from that body just seized up for about 30 seconds while i was lying on the ground unconscious.

I rarely drink nor have i abused any drink or drugs - freaking sucks having this shit come out of nowhere. I guess it could be worse, just have to get on with it i guess.

manual labour - not so good

Luckily i am self-employed and make my money from behind a computer screen. So this gives me a lot of freedom and means i do not have to drive to work everyday (as my license has been suspended).

Nah my body-fat is about 18-19% and i am very healthy apart from this one issue, i cycle upto 90 minutes every other day so cardio wise i am also strong. My diet is generally good and i try to keep stress and late nights at a minimum.

However, i have to say this has affected my personality recently, feeling way more depressed than usual and generally scared of another seizure. I have done all the reading and the prognosis is generally good especially if EEG and MRI are both normal - in that case with some AEDs the odds of being seizure free (greater than 5 years) are nearly 90%. Things can always be worse i guess.

That sounds crazy man, how did that happen. Also, were you in hospital for four days then? What did you drink during this time and how did you know how much time had elapsed?

 I told the story in another thread. It happened from extremely high fever and extreme dehydration.

 I was actually only in the hospital for about 3 hours. They gave me pills that worked like magic and got me better fast.

 Now I feel good. I just walked around the block and bought some ice cream  Tommorrow I might even lift weights. I feel blessed by whatever God exists in this universe.

Agreed, don't matter how good you take care of your body bad shit can still happen.

I am looking on the bright-side of this - i mean at-least it did not happen during childhood or university so i got to live my younger years to the fullest. With the new treatments they have now im pretty sure i will be fine as long as the new MRI and EEG scan don't pick up anything negative.

Like i said the bright-side for me is that i have lovely supporting soon to be wife, great family support from everyone and great career which can be done behind a computer. Will try to live my life as normal as possible and enjoy each and every day. Thanks for kind words guys.
