at 53% today.   Sad, but this may be the reality: (from DU)

They can see it's going to be an uphill battle and many of them don't want to be the butt of a historical joke like McGovern, Mondale, Dukakis and even George H.W. Bush. Lose an election in landslide fashion and you're never going to live it down.

You'll be known until your death as that guy who got his ass kicked by Obama.

Which isn't entirely fair, but it is what it is. Do you think Mondale is more remembered for his vice presidency or the fact he was on the wrong side of one of the worst electoral losses in American history? I know when someone mentions Mondale, my first thought is near-50 state landslide.

Barber-OUT (He, himself said the reason was that he could not beat Obama)

Huckabee-OUT

Christie- OUT

Daniels-OUT

Thune-OUT

And I am sure I am leaving a few out

There currently is not ONE ACTIVE SENATOR OR GOVERNOR seeking the GOP nomination! That is amazing. And it really says a lot.

Poll went up 7 points from last week, which was down 7 points from the prior week.

What causes this?  To me, it seems like there's a lot of noise in the data.  The only plausible thing I can think of is that maybe older groups are actually scared of the perceived Republican standpoint on Medicare/Medicaid.

I'll admit I don't know the sample size or the predominant demographic behind Gallup.  Do they ever list it?

Either way, it means nothing right now, unless there continues to be a steady, upward trend.  If the economy remains the same, there shouldn't be one.

Obama's economic panel applauds GM, Chrysler resurgence

WASHINGTON — President Obama's top adviser on U.S. manufacturing touted gains made by General Motors and Chrysler since their 2009 restructurings with $80 billion in taxpayer aid, but said it's too early to say when the government's remaining stakes in the two will be sold.

Ron Bloom spoke to White House reporters Wednesday after release of a report by Obama's National Economic Council titled, "The Resurgence of the American Automobile Industry." It says taxpayers likely will lose about $14 billion of the $80 billion.
The report came ahead of the president's scheduled visit Friday to a Chrysler plant in Toledo, and amid clear signs that the administration is moving to take credit for the survival of the domestic auto industry.
"A lot of people said, 'You're throwing good money after bad; you'll never get out; these companies aren't saveable,'" said Bloom in praising Obama's "courageous decision to stand behind these companies."
That decision was widely criticized by those who believed they should go it on their own, as well as by those who believed that even federal aid could not save them.
Bloom said that the market share for U.S. automakers is up, that thousands of jobs have been added and that GM, Ford and Chrysler are better equipped for another rough patch if gas prices rise more. "The Big Three are making better cars, and they're making better, more fuel-efficient cars," he said.
The report calculated that 20,000 jobs have been saved or created in the industry. Recently, GM announced additional shifts and investments; Chrysler paid its government loans; and Fiat, the Italian firm that took a large share of Chrysler, announced its intention to buy the stakes held by the U.S. and Canadian governments.
"For the first time in more than a decade, all three American automakers are profitable, expanding production and jobs, and gaining market share," the report said.
The U.S. cut its stake in publicly held GM by about half last fall, and Bloom said the rest will be sold "as soon as practicable." He said that the government will get out of the auto companies as soon as it can, while recouping as much of the investment as it can.
Bloom said that while the loss of $14 billion would be serious, it would still be worth it: "We're not going to apologize for the fact that there are literally hundreds of thousands of Americans working today because of what happened."
But many Americans still remain critical of decisions made by Presidents Bush and Obama, and Congress, to risk public money in private business.
Kirsten Kukowski, a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, said, "President Obama should put as much effort into making sure the taxpayers are paid back in full as they have been in taking unnecessary victory laps."

37 million uninsured Americans got free healthcare? Would that include all the people who work for unions and corporations that received waivers? How about the myriad of state laws passed well before Obamacare was ever implemented that allows an extension of healthcare coverage for the family members of municipal employees?

Is the 500 billion dollars Obama slashed from Medicaid to "fund" Obamacare justifiable in your opinion? The HHS directors admission that accounting tricks and outright falsehoods were factored into the cost calculations of Obamacare doesn't bother you?

Not to mention the fact that two judges have already declared Obama care unconstitutional.

If you consider Obamacare a success, you are deficient in elementary school math, basic economic principles and ordinary cognitive thought.

Mal, you are swiftly descending from a mere leftist know nothing who means well, to a complete fucking idiot.

double doh!

On Monday, May 23, Chrysler declared that its bailout loan has been paid back.  It will come as no surprise if that “repayment” gets touted during next year’s election cycle as proof positive that the government can mess with the economy and come out smelling like a rose.  In reality, Chrysler’s original bailout was worth $13 billion, and its repayment is for $7.6 billion.  Further, Fiat, the Italian company that owns Chrysler, was only able to make the $7.6 billion payment after it purchased an additional 16 percent of Chrysler’s stock, which, because of the conditions of the bailout, could only occur once Chrysler had repaid $3.5 billion of its loan from the Treasury.  But Fiat and Chrysler are having a hard time getting private loans, so they got a $3.5 billion loan from the Department of Energy through a program that has been criticized by the GAO for lack of oversight and direction, and  – miracle of miracles – suddenly they are solvent enough to pay the Treasury $7.6 billion.

At GM, the situation is even worse.  Despite last year’s claims to the contrary, U.S. taxpayers are still on the hook for Government Motors.  As The Atlantic’s Megan McArdle pointed out on May 12, 2011, the federal government still owns 26.5 percent of GM’s stock, and has about $20 billion left to recoup on the initial $40 billion loan.  According to McArdle, that means “we need to sell the approximately 365 million shares we have left at about $55 per share, net of underwriting and legal costs.  At the current share price of $31, we’d be left with a loss somewhere north of $9 billion--plus the $1 billion we gave the ‘old GM’ to wind things up, and the $2.1 billion worth of GM preferred stock we own.”  In light of those looming losses, it is hard to keep a straight face when the DNC claims that the bailouts were the right choice.

So, to recap, the Obama Energy Department is loaning a foreign car company $3.5 billion so that it can pay the Treasury Department $7.6 billion even though American taxpayers spent $13 billion to save an American car company that is currently only worth $5 billion

May 17, 2011 (Reuters) - The Obama administration is "hopeful" Chrysler Group LLC will qualify for government loans to help make more fuel-efficient vehicles, but the automaker still has hurdles to clear with banks and investors.
