Guess the Gyroball wasnt all it was cracked up to be

and let me get this straight.. They paid like $50 mil for the release from Jap team. And they gave him $50mil.. So BoSox gave up $100mil for 49 wins.. damn $2mil per win


ccording to an industry source, Daisuke Matsuzaka is likely headed for Tommy John surgery.

While the decision is not final -- the source indicated some due diligence is left to be done -- it appears that the right-hander will indeed have season-ending surgery to repair the injury to his ulnar collateral (Tommy John) ligament and common flexor mass of his right elbow.

Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated on Thursday afternoon reported (via Twitter) that Matsuzaka will have the surgery, "probably" next week, with Dr. Lewis Yocum performing the surgery.

The right-hander -- who is 3-3 with a 5.30 ERA in eight games (seven starts) this year -- is under contract in 2012, the final year of his six-year, $52 million deal.

Matsuzaka was scheduled to meet with Red Sox officials on Thursday to discuss treatment options.

Matsuzaka first felt pain in his right elbow in a start vs. the Mariners on April 29. In what could turn out to be his final start of the season on May 16, Matsuzaka walked seven batters and had a significant drop in his velocity against the Orioles.

Matzusaka was a bust but I can't laugh at the sox about it because I read scouting reports on him for about a year prior to his signing, and his stuff appeared to be the kind that would translate well, except for the high change up.

It turned out to be 103M total PLUS this nice list of incentives:

perks: physical therapist, massage therapist, interpreter, 8 first-class round-trip airline tickets per year between Boston & Japan, spring training housing allowance of up to $25,000, Boston housing allowance of up to $75,000, one-time moving allowance of up to $35,000, use of Lincoln Town Car or similar car, Red Sox player ticket package, including 2 field box seats, team employee to assist Japanese media, uniform No. 18

Yeah, but that 18 win year is considered the benchmark study as to why the win category for pitchers is not the best way to evaluate them.

Actually, probably.

The Sox have learned in recent years that when the team is perceived to be non-competitive, NESN, who they own, experiences a sharp decrease in ratings, which kills ad revenue.  I believe the viewership was down 33% in 2010.

That's why completely over paying for a guy like Carl Crawford makes financial sense for them.

Dice K knows he sucks thats why he gave a million dollars to the Japan relief fund. He knows that because he was so overly generous, Japan will reward him with endorsements for the rest of his life.

Someone should send Carl Spackler over to Buster's Poser's house so he can cut the ligament in his hamstring. That way when the he goes to hit the ball, he'll never be able to catch up and push everything foul to the right. He'll get so frustrated he'll have to quit the game.

He's had some big hits for them and hit .300 in May and is hitting the same in June. His April was so bad that his numbers will probably be skewed the whole year.
