That was actually a pretty good discussion.

I don't think legalizing marijuana will make problems disappear as easily as some of the people on that clip seem to suggest.  I can't see foreign cartels suddenly becoming nonviolent business competitors.

In this country, we would replace the "war on drugs" with some new federal government bureaucracy trying to regulate production, sales, and the collection of taxes.

We'd also have the issue of sales to minors.

Common sense to do this.  I am not a drug user , but the drug war is nothing but a vacuum for tax dollars, big govt, etc.

Too many govt employees are sucking the taxpayer tit in order to keep this nonsense goin.

Did it not make a difference with alchohol prohibition?

Yes.

Marijuana, cocaine, etc. pose different problems, including the international cartels.  We would also likely be replacing one set of problems with another (as I mentioned above).

we still have organized crime just not with alcohol...

legalizing it wont end cartels or gangs etc...b/c these ppl will just move on to something else.

these criminals arent just going to straighten up and fly right

So the drug war should be continued? At least many people would no longer suffer, for example, from being in prison for nonviolent crimes.

I know youre not talking about simple possesion b/c you dont often go to jail for possesion unless it a lot of drugs or you have priors...

Yeah, but still costs a shit load to the taxpayer, clogs the courts, and overall keeps way too many govt hacks on the dole.

I think the problem of sales to minors would actully decrease.

The reason being, right now all they do is contact their dealer which is usually a classmate who gets it from another dealer.  It's literally easier than going to a store and buying it.  In some cases it's delivered.  It's all over the place.

By putting it in stores and imposing restrictions and severe penalties for violations it becomes similar to minors buying alcohol.

Why do foreign heads of state think they're in a position to dictate how we run our country and why should I give a fuck about any of their opinions?

ill agree with that, dont know how much it will help b/c drug dealers will just start pushing another drug harder or find other criminal activities to get money.

These ppl are criminals for a reason and its not b/c they feel the govt is wrong on its marijuana policy. They will continue to break laws and be criminals b/c its whats easy to them.

never had a problem getting either as a minor, had a fake ID at 18 and never got turned down...

this wouldnt keep it out of the hands of minors any more than the war on drugs does.

But I agree at least we would have some control over as opposed to now

here is a question though, would you be in favor of legalizing the growing of it at your residence?

making your own beer is legal, would you be ok with growing your own weed?

Dude, here in Cali the amount of growing is unbelievable.  In the city I live in, there are 2 new hydroponic stores, one is in a converted car show room.  There are some nieborhoods in other cities where you can strongly smell it being cured as you drive or walk down the street.

I think the laws should be similar to alcohol but more severe with sales to minors and driving on the influence ( including alcohol)

well if youre legally for growing it in your house, how is legalizing it going to take it off the streets and out of kids hands?

Personally, I have been in favor of legalizing all drug use for decades. I personally do no use "recreational drugs" other than the occasional glass or two of scotch and wine. However, it seems to me folks need to be responsible for their own choices, good or bad. If recreational drugs were legal, drug cartels would disappear because there would be little profit in the manufacture and sale of drugs. Afterall, it is all about the money, isn't it? I believe it is in Holland where folks can purchase these types of drugs from pharmacies. This seems a lot safer than buying them off some dealer.

The penalties.  Same as parents who would be supplying alcohol to their children.

They cite government stats that claim that drug use has gone down due to drug policy. That is pretty much an endorsement of the drug war.

Plus if you watch other drug war fox interviews they are almost always in support of it.

LOL yes but if you can grow it in your house, kids or ppl who want to make a quick buck will and will supply it to kids...

JUST LIKE THEY DO NOW!!!!!!!!!

so how will legalizing it keep it out of the hands of kids?
