UE under 9.1%?  52 consecutive months of job growth? A much better economy than the one that exists today, until Democrats took over Congress in 2007 and destroyed any chance of stability?

in each of those years we raised the debt ceiling

the odd part is that during those same years Bush grew the deficit from 5.727 trillion to more than 9.849 trillion.
this is a 71.9% increase during Bush's 2 terms.   The biggest increase under any president in US History.

The only reason I mention this is that we didn't hear a peep out of those deficit hawks in the House and Senate while Bush almost double the deficit in a mere 8 years.   Not one word

Regarding jobs, I know it's a nice Republican myth that Bush had a great record on jobs but the reality is he had the worst record of job creation since the Labor Deparment started keeping records in 1939.

http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2009/01/09/bush-on-jobs-the-worst-track-record-on-record/

When Bush entered office the UE rate was 4.2%.  When he left it was 7.7% and we were hemoraging jobs at a rate we had never seen before.

The only reason I mention any of this now is that when I see Repubs playing games with the debt ceiling or trying to deny aid to disaster victims all under the guise of concern over the defict I just can't take them seriously.

Here's another easy quiz for our political board experts.

The Rupblicans have been in control of the House since January 5th.

What legislation have they passed or even proposed that would help create jobs

Barak Obama will approach that in 3 years what it took Bush 8 years to do. And Bush grew the economy, Barack Obama has not. Therefore Bush's performance on the debt as a percentage of GDP, while not ideal, was certainly much better than Obama's performance, and was certainly MANAGABLE. When Bush was president, did you see any ratings agencies threaten to take away our AAA  credit rating? Deficit hawks on the conservative side DID complain about Bush's spending, but they didnt do it as vigourously because it wasnt as bad as Obama's spending, and much more managable.

Oh, and about the "jobs record" and link that you cited. Straw, do you realize how misleading that is? You do know those numbers are counted on a NET basis, right? Which means the job losses that occur during thier administration are subtracted from the jobs that they create. Which is completely stupid becuase the job losses occur during recessions which presidents cant do anything about. Bush was president during two recessions. He inherited the first and the second occured in his last year of office. You mention the 4.2% unemployment rate he inerited, but you forget to mention the record bear market in the stock market that he also inherited, which is about as good as the 6/7% unemployement rate that the bear market eventually led to.
Jan. Jobs: 36,000!!
