Years after the tax cuts and years of war, right before the bursting of the housing bubble, the deficit was down to historically low levels, even after the bursting of the bubble, we were still in good fiscal shape. The wars were a relatively small percentage of the deficits.  Barack Obama is bankrupting the country, NOT Bush. It is the massive rise of medicaid spending and discretionary spending under Obama that has caused us to go bankrupt. The prescription drug benefit may have been a mistake in pure economic terms but it is the only entitlement program in American history to actually come in UNDER expected costs. The Democrats surely would have done something far worse and devastating when they got power, becuase thier prescription drug benefit plan didnt have any market fundamentals.

By the way, do you support raising taxes only on those making about $250000 a year?

as for your question...I think Obama should raise taxes on ALL Americans both rich and poor and the seniors as well....all Americans have to chip in....but they have got to close tax loopholes for corporations as well and stop subsidies to the rich which is a form of welfare too

you are absolutely right about catching my mistake on medicaid/medicare..I simply thought you had posted medicare instead of medicaid while writing my post....tax simplification would be nice....but I am assuming there is a reason they haven't done it yet..they have been talking about doing it for years yet there is no action on doing so
