« on: June 17, 2011, 12:49:18 PM »
A new poll which was published in the Houston Chronicle has Obama's approval rating in the state of Texas at 51%. Texans Governor Rick Perry's approval rating is 54%. (Yes that is within the margin of error.)

That poll has to be bogus.  In Texas I bet it is more like 75% Perry 25% Obama right now.

Eh, Obama was consistently polling at 47%, and got an OBL bump.  Weird that Perry is so poor.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A poll by the nonpartisan Lyceum group finds that the majority of likely voters in Texas approve of the job Republican Rick Perry is doing as governor and Democrat Barack Obama is doing as president.

The poll shows Perry — a potential presidential candidate — with a 54 percent job approval rating among those surveyed.

Obama's approval rating stands at 51 percent. That's up from 47 percent in 2010, and the poll organizers say Obama's rating may have been helped because the poll was conducted about three weeks since the U.S. military operation that killed Osama bin Laden.

Both register above the 49 percent approval from the GOP-controlled state Legislature.

About 700 people were polled by telephone from May 24-31. The margin of error was plus or minus 3.7 percent.

Yes, you're the one now accusing the nonpartisan Lyceum group of making up results for the last several years.

Use your freaking head.    if he is at 47% nationally, its impossible for him to be at 51% in texas.   But I guess in Liberal Cartoon Land you believe that.

Perry used to be a democrat.  Maybe texans still remember that. He also supports NAFTA.  Texans hate that.  He is also a Bilderberger so I don't trust his motives

Perry is not popular at all in Texas, even among conservatives. A lot of it is undeserved. Its a case of grass always being greener on the other side. The charge that he isnt conservative enough is rediculous. He is conservative where it counts. He was against TARP. He was against an Amazon.com tax that was proposed by a lot of Republicans in Texas in the specter of "business fairness" . Against intense political pressure, he refused to use the state's rainy day fund to close the budget whole, instead he cut $4 billion out of education. If you think Perry isnt conservative enough, your standards for a conservative politician are way too high. A lot of people outside of Texas would kill for a governor that conservative.

Here, let me give you a few reasons - remembering hispanics vote 2/3 dem:
Hispanics are the fastest-growing population group in Texas. The Hispanic population in Texas has grown by 10.9 percent since 2000,

Total Hispanic Population in Texas, 9151000, 2. Hispanics as Percent of State Population, 37%, 3. Hispanics as Percent of U.S. Hispanic Population, 18.9%

Update: Perry today vetoed a bill that would have banned texting while driving. Come on guys, a lot of conservatives arent even THAT anti- government. Come on, do people really need to be texting while driving?

Good point. San Antonio contains the only county north of the valley that went blue in the last 2 presidential elections.

you can't compare the two based on polls for each.  The same person that might disaprove of Obama in what he's doing with the country might be ok with Perry on the state level and vise versa and there are other considerations.  You're dealing with politics on two way different levels, more goes into it than just matching poll numbers up.

I don't know why you say it has to be bogus, there's a lot of dems in Texas.

The guy is a complete utter scumbag.  I really have absolutely no clue why 3333 supported him.  I would really think that 3333 would have been against him...

I don't see why a Texas governor is meeting in secret with European bankers and heads of state.

I suspect they persuaded him to keep the border between Texas and Mexico a little more liberal.

I'm sure rick scott is more popular nationwide than in FL, where he has a 29% approval rating.

palin is more populr nationwide than in Alaska, isn't she?

this is probably common.  I think chris christie is the same way.  Most probably are, unless they do a totally kickass job and match the views of those in their state.
