In the third video (Lee doing standing cable curl), his wheels look SKINNY. Particularly, his lower body doesn't look strong, at all. Like he just doesn't squat heavy ... or even do much in the way of heavy pressing, etc. Just those semi-useless leg extensions he demonstrates in the first video.

I remember back in his day telling Greg Zulak (I think) he was gonna lift heavy on the day Greg was observing one of his workouts. He worked up to a "mighty" 275 on squats.

I have no issue with Labrada. The man has always been pro towards me and the folks I know. However ...

Isn't it less than honourable to advertise oneself in a way as to promote one's supplement company, when the reality is, your conditioning and muscularity is mostly by way of hormonal supplementation?

I don't dislike Lee, and I consider his to be one of the classic bodybuilding physiques, but this shit bugs me.

Who cares how much he could squat?  He was one of the best of his era.  He might not have 30 inch quads, but they still are impressive.

I agree. He is one of the best from his era. However, those wheels are far from impressive.

I saw Lee at one of the bodybuilding expos a couple years after he retired, he was about the size of a horse racing jockey.

So it's not good enough that at 50 he looks better than 100% of the bodybuilders of today now he should have been a power lifter as well?

Tone it down, champ. I am not trashing the guy as a bodybuilder. But I am suggesting, in my opinion, a top-flight BB should NOT consider 275 in the squat a "heavy" session.

While I will agree that 275 isn't that heavy, its heavy enough for actually most people. In short building muscle is a matter of volume with just right amount of weight. If you go by a percentage of your 1RM, about 65-80% would be plenty.

I think he could easily have worked himself up to 405 for sets and reps and built a much more powerful-looking physique. And potential injury wouldn't have been much to consider, either. Four plates a side would have likely added a solid 10-15 pounds to his overall frame ... in a good way. Lee was always too safe with his training.

But this attitude is perhaps just mine. Certainly I will not argue his success on the posing dais.

To a degree, sure. However, keep telling yourself that to the fullest extent of its core message and you ain't getting anywhere. Drugs have allowed folks to avoid what must be done, frequently: a breaking through of self-imposed limitations.

I agree, but I think progression is more important. I doubt a person could grow from lifting the same weights for years. Let's say a beginner benches 135 lbs and never increases the weight, but only does set after set with the same weight...I don't think he'd grow.

My recollection is that he would do squats with a fairly close stance for high reps after doing leg extension and leg presses

Apart from this making no sense whatsoever, even knowing what you're trying to say here, it's still bollocks.

clearly you dont understand how muscle grows.

there is not a direct correlation between amount of weight moved and muscle mass. there is a correlation between work done and muscle mass though- with the work done being somewhere in the 50-85% of 1RM range. 85% of 1RM for reps does not guarantee superior results over 60% of 1RM for reps. MANY people experience better growth at higher reps..the legs in particular yield great results at lower % of 1RM with 20+ reps.

Looks like someone may be getting ready to compete! Any news on whether he is competing in the Masters show?
