It's been about 15 years since I did Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I use to watch bodybuilder/power lifter types come in and it was fun to watch them gas out quick. I know many will say they didn't have any skills being new yet but the point I'm making is how quickly they got tired to the point their strength was worthless.
I only had 5 amatuer boxing matches in the ring. From that I concluded I don't like being punched in the head. I would see skinny guys that were in great condition beating the hell out of weight trained guys that had no endurance.
Concerning physiques I think the drug bodybuilding sub culture has warped views on what an athlete should look like. I bet if a sprinter, MMA guy, running back, gymnast, olympic lifter and others put on speedos the guys here would blast their physique because they don't have the steroid, GH, insulin, speed and oil inject look.
Bodybuilding is great but if their is no aerobic; vo2 anaerobic type conditioning; no power component training like jumps, sprinting, olympic lifts; or skill training toward something you don't have an athlete. Strength without a power component equals athletic uselessness. You have a mirror athlete who looks like they can do something but can't.
