Muscle mentor
« on: June 28, 2011, 07:00:40 AM »
Who was your muscle mentor in your early years of training?  An older brother?  Your father?  Uncle?  A dude you met at the gym?  Did you go it alone with magazines and videos for training tips?  Do you still have a muscle mentor?  How did you really learn about nutrition, training techniques for stubborn body parts, or supplements?  Have you been a muscle mentor to anyone?  Do newcomers at the gym, or fat guys, ask you for advice?

Who are the best muscle mentors out there?  Chris Aceto? Chad Nicholls?  Hany Rambod?  Charles Glass?

I suspect that you're about to decipher the inner gayness of the mentor/pupil relationships of our fellow getbiggers.

I started lifting when I was 14 years old. The first 8 months in the gym I was there every single day working really hard. Problem is I didn't know what I was doing. One of the biggest guys in the gym a corrections officer started helping me train. He gave me a workout routine to follow. He is a very cool guy. When I go home to visit my folks I make sure to stop at my old gym and say hi to him.

That's good of you to do; I bet he really appreciates it.

Rambod seems like the new go-to guy.

My father, i always looked up for him, the way he looked, the poundage he lift, his knowledge about exercises and the way he trained and treated people.

he told me that if i want to get big i must lift and eat big, and so i did.
the first few years that i was training i didn't know what the machines and cables were used for, i did only squats deadlifts and bench along with some other basic movements.

dude most every bodybuilder who has come up in npc ranks has had a gay mentor that has helped them out, it is just fact pretty much, do you look on stage and see guys who have 50k a year jobs?  No you see guys with no job or shitty jobs part time, spending thousands on drugs they cannot afford.  They have help, and they provide services, it's a fair deal for both parties.

in HS I took BFS, the weight training coach, who was also a wrestling coach as well came over to me and told me that I should take up bbing. I asked why, and he said that I was very disciplined, and that I wasn't trying to impress anybody by lifting weights that I couldn't handle---I use the weight that I could.

One time in college, during the summer I was working in the Mall, and I saw him, he asked me if I was still working out, this was about 5 yrs after the class and he remembered...I asked hm about working calves and working forearms. He told me about using pails of sand, or baseball with nails.

In college there was a bber that I became friends with, his name was Troy Brown, dude, was nicknamed "Beast" like from X-Men, because he was super smart. He managed to take 26 credits a semester, workout, and was a stripper and do martial arts.
We were friends and would talk alot about bbing...
