"A typical street whore." "A bunch of ghetto thugs." "Ghetto street trash." "Wonder when she will get her first abortion."

These are a small selection of some of the racially-charged comments posted to the conservative 'Free Republic' blog Thursday, aimed at U.S. President Barack Obama's 11-year-old daughter Malia after she was photographed wearing a t-shirt with a peace sign on the front.

The thread was accompanied by a photo of Michelle Obama speaking to Malia that featured the caption, "To entertain her daughter, Michelle Obama loves to make monkey sounds."

Though this may sound like the sort of thing one might read on an Caucasian Nation or white power website, they actually appeared on what is commonly considered one of the prime online locations for U.S. Conservative grassroots political discussion and organizing - and for a short time, the comments seemed to have the okay of site administrators.

Moderators of the blog left the comments - and commenters - in place until a complaint was lodged by a writer doing research on the conservative movement, almost a full day later.

"Could you imagine what world leaders must be thinking seeing this kind of street trash and that we paid for this kind of street ghetto trash to go over there?" wrote one commenter.

"They make me sick .... The whole family... mammy, pappy, the free loadin' mammy-in-law, the misguided chillin', and especially 'lil cuz... This is not the America I want representin' my peeps," wrote another.

Such was the onslaught of derision on the site that the person who originally complained about the slurs, who goes by the nickname 'CatM', claimed on the left-wing DailyKos.com website that only one comment in the first hundred posted actually criticized the remarks as inappropriate.

A note on the front of Free Republic reads, "Free Republic does not advocate or condone racism, violence, rebellion, secession, or an overthrow of the government," but one comment on the thread read, "This disgusting display makes me more and more eager for the revolution," while another read, "I never actually wnated [sic] to be a pistol before but..."

After attention from other blogs, the thread was suppressed and placed under review, but before long it was returned to the site intact, and attracted a new series of racial slurs when the original complaint email was posted publicly to the site, with the sender's email address intact.

"The writer has a point," wrote site owner Jim Robinson sarcastically. "We should steer clear of Obama's children. They can't help it if their old man is an American-hating Marxist pig."

"I agree Jim," wrote commenter, by the nickname NoobRep. "The kids didn't pick their commie pinko pansy of a father. Nor did they choose to be put into the spotlight. But Obama/Soetoro is fair game and so is his witch of a wife."

"Poor kids. I hope they're not 'punished with a baby'," wrote another. "Hopefully they won't deal cocaine like the Kenyan."

Wow, that's from the owner of Free Republic...... :o

"DIRTBAGS! All of them. Our [White House] is now a joke to the rest of the world. We have no respect and this is not going to turn out well, mark my words. We will be hit, and much worse than last time. We are now seen as weak and vulnerable. Ghetto and Chicago thugs have taken over."

Only after significant negative attention from a host of left wing political blogs did the maintainers of the Free Republic site place the thread under review for a second time, before finally pulling it.

In the wake of the controversy, some Free Republic posters complained about the vitriol.

One poster by the name of "fullchroma" wrote, "To Jim Robinson: The recent uptick here in racist vitriol, aimed at Barrack, Michelle and their children has made me wonder if I belong. My objection to Obama has nothing to do with skin tone. Is the ugly stereotype of Conservative racism true?"

Another, going by the name of TChris, wrote, "Free Republic is a political discussion forum. It SHOULD be beneath us as a group to stoop to such juvenile tactics as I see increasing here lately. Do we REALLY have to insult Mrs. Obama's appearance like a clique of nasty 14-year-old girls?"

But such opinions were not shared by all. Said Roses of Sharon, "Poor libs .... Too late, the battle has been joined."

Source:  From the Vancouver Sun:

So Free Republic openly trashes an 8 year old child because she's the daughter of President Obama.  What kind of people are they.....can you answer 33333333333333333666666, you're one of them... ;D

Notoriety Trumps Preservation as Some Web Sites Scrub Hateful Posts

Shortly after authorities identified their suspect in the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum shooting Wednesday, the world began searching for traces of James W. von Brunn online. Those who Googled immediately were able to find him: a personal Web site claiming Jewish "conspiracies," diatribes posted on message boards. But those who started their hunt just a few hours later would have found only empty holes -- information that was scrubbed away as Web sites figured out how to address the fact that they had once hosted the words of an accused murderer.

Searching the Internet became an elusive chase, both for information about von Brunn, and for an answer to whether it's possible to shred online history.

In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, which resulted in the death of one security guard, several items were unearthed online that appeared to be written by von Brunn: a piece titled "Obama Is Missing," which questioned the president's citizenship, on conservative forum FreeRepublic.com. A Wikipedia user bio page (von Brunn had edited only sporadically), in which he wrote that Judaism is "the Enemy of Mankind." A long-stagnant personal site, HolyWesternEmpire.org, which included links to a novel.

Throughout Wednesday afternoon, these links began to disappear. Clicking on the personal site resulted in an error message. The Wikipedia user page vanished. The Free Republic link was also removed -- at least for a while. Current events Web site Daily Kos remarked on the removal, and a few hours later, the post reappeared.

By way of explanation, Free Republic spokesman Kristinn Taylor says that when "Obama Is Missing" -- which had been re-posted from another site -- was brought to a moderator's attention, the moderator "removed it to review it," which Taylor says is a common practice on the site. After Free Republic determined that the post didn't contain racist or anti-Semitic remarks, which Taylor says would have violated the site's user agreements, the post was uploaded again. "There was no need to look like we were trying to hide something that we weren't trying to hide," Taylor says.

Wikipedia spokesman Jay Walsh says the user profile attributed to von Brunn was removed "not because of its linkage to [the shooting], but because it contained hate speech," a common reason for an article or user page to be edited or deleted. Walsh admits that the offending language might not have been discovered -- and subsequently removed -- had it not been for the shooting, but the incident caused people to "start looking and connecting and finding this page. . . . Sometimes it's just a matter of eyeballs needing to meet content."

Walsh says that if the user page had not contained objectionable language, "it's probably safe to say it would be a different situation." The user profile for JimmyFlatHead, the Wikipedia name used by anthrax suspect Bruce Ivins, has also been deleted, though Walsh says that he is not sure why.

In general, netiquette values transparency; removals, especially without explanation, are frowned upon. But the Internet is still a new enough medium of communication that it remains largely unregulated and without universal standards.

So much we are unsure of: Once a person commits a crime, does that make previous offensive comments somehow more offensive, more deserving of removal? Should Web sites be bound to preserve record of their affiliations with people who later turn out to be monsters? How much of a fresh start is deserved online?

"We've seen [scrubbing] happen with other perpetrators," says Deborah Lauter, who tracks incidents of Internet hate speech for the Anti-Defamation League. "It's a pretty regular thing" that pages on social networking sites will be removed, Lauter says. MySpace, for example, removed the profiles of Daniel Cowart and Paul Schlesselman, who are charged with plotting to assassinate the president. MySpace has a policy of removing profiles that "promote racism or bigotry," according to the site's security agreement.

Sites that remove incendiary material written by suspected criminals, Lauter says, "are worried that they'll be the subject of more scrutiny, and worried that they will be associated with violence. Some of these groups are very careful" to stress that they practice nonviolence.

After word got out that Scott Roeder, who is charged in the May 31 fatal shooting of abortion doctor George Tiller, had once posted a comment on the antiabortion activist site OperationRescue.org, the comment appeared to have been deleted. Operation Rescue quickly released a statement condemning Roeder's actions, saying that the organization works through "peaceful and legal means." Ron Shank, the organization's Web designer, said in an e-mail that the comment's disappearance had nothing to do with Roeder's actions but was rather due to "traffic handling modifications," in which comments were "suspended" two weeks after the original post. Roeder posted his comment in May 2007; other comments from the same time period are still visible.

Of course, Roeder's comment is still available, too -- it was copied and re-posted by dozens of other sites and news organizations before it disappeared. The same has been true for von Brunn's Web presence. The "disappeared" sites and postings have been cached and preserved for posterity, precisely because some contain hateful invective, by both archival tools like the Wayback Machine, and by amateur online archivists, and were circulated widely on message boards throughout Wednesday and yesterday.

Often on the Internet, even the things that disappear in an instant never really go away.

Ha ha ha ha - LMAO.

That site is where people post articles from around the web and people comment on them.

And please tell me what statement is racist?

And, Speaking of ghetto thug animals.  I was at the Boston Aquarium and this 50 y/o guy with a stroller by accident knocked into a ghetto thug animal about 30 y/o and his boy near the seal exhibit.  The piece of trash had his hat on sideways, pants around his ass, walking w the ghetto one leg dragging slink, etc.  The place was mobbed and the guy had a little kid with him.  Tons of little kids around.

Apology accepted by the ghetto thug savage?   Nope!  In front of about 40 people this disgusting savage tried to fight the old man, threatened to kill him, started jumping up and down, screaming, even though kids were scared and started crying, etc.  Security came and moved this barbarian along.  Well, 5 minutes later he came back.  This time people were pissed off.  I said to this asshole - "You should be on the other side of the cage"    He didnt compute what I meant but he was stillangling for fight with the 50 y/o guy.   He was taking off his chains, handing his shit to his boy, etc.  People got in his face and told him to leave and he backed off.

People just shook their heads in disgust.

It is what for many seems like a common occurence in large public gatherings of people.

Even Chris Rock said so.

Chris Rock is a comedian, his comments are not meant to be taken seriously as is Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert and when Republicans attack them, it makes them look even worse.

Funny - ever see some of the posts at DU?

People hate Obama for what he is doing to the nation, collapsing it intentionally.   He is a communist pofs, a traitor, a marxist, an economic illiterate, a rabble rouser, and a failed POTUS.

Yes.   From his indoctrination by his marxist mother, Frank Marshal Davis, Rev. Wright, Fr. Flegar, Saul Alinsky, Ayeres & Bernadine Dohrn, "the marxist profressors" in college he sought out, etc, he has always been a radical leftist.

His brief record in the Senate, all 145 days of it, showed he was even further to the left than the self proclaimed socialist Bernie Sanders.

So what exactly are you saying here Vince/Melvin or whatever you are calling yourself today? That they should be silenced because you don't like what they are saying? Strange, I thought you were in the army, therefore you took an oath to uphold the constitution ( see the 1st Amendment).

FR is a clearing house for articles all over the web.   most are on drudge or RCP.

I guess vince thinks RCP is racist too.   According to most libs - you are racist if you call obama's policies a disaster.

Do you really want to go there?

I can tell you about tons of racist remarks from WHITE LIBERALS and WHITE GAY LIBERALS on the San Francisco Chronicle, towards black people.

For instance, the story of the single black Army mom who was about to be court-martialed for missing deployment. Some of the white folks there called her the same names that you're wailing that Malia Obama was called.

Even though the article explained the situation (the woman's mother agreed to watch her child and was officially put on a form as the primary child care, which this Army mom gave to her supervisor; at the last minute, her mother backed out claiming she had to care for another sick relative and that the stress was too much for her to care for her granddaughter).

Despite that, and other information given, racist comments were flying from the liberal folks who are supposedly oh-so-tolerant. And, I won't even get into the Prop. 8 stuff, regarding some white liberals/gays' comments regarding blacks voting the California marriage amendment.
