you're still playing politics with it.  A bunch of shit came out over several years and each time it was excused and a smear campaign launched against people involved.  So most of those things, the right can easily pull up an article from Fox saying, oh look, it was just because this dude was writing a book or bla bla...  That's my point in bringing it up now... You're getting what was given...

At any rate, that's why I think you get ignored on this from the left.  

I personally think Holder should be in jail and there should be a fast and furious special prosecutor on this ASAP.  At this point there is enough that several people should be in Jail from FBI and ATF and they should be getting the same treatment from a special prosecutor that any normal person gets when they break the law.  Given lighter sentence alternatives for spilling the beans, if not, have fun rotting in prison.... But public outrage that leads to shit like that happening is less when so many do what I talked about above.

EXCLUSIVE: House Republicans are going to call for a special counsel to determine whether Attorney General Holder perjured himself during his testimony to the House Judiciary Committee on Operation Fast and Furious, Fox News has learned.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith, R-Texas, is sending a letter to President Obama arguing that Holder cannot investigate himself and will request a probe by a special counsel.

The question is whether Holder committed perjury during a Judiciary Committee hearing in May. At the time, Holder indicated he was not familiar with with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives program known as Fast and Furious.

However, a newly discovered memo dated July 2010 shows Michael Walther, director of the National Drug Intelligence Center, told Holder that straw buyers in the Fast and Furious operation "are responsible for the purchase of 1,500 firearms that were then supplied to the Mexican drug trafficking cartels."

In response to the Monday release of that and other documents, the Justice Department said Holder was confused by the question, and that he was answering about when he first learned of the "troubling tactics" of the program, not the name of it.

But House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., told Fox News on Tuesday morning that Holder saying he didn't understand the question rather than he didn't know of the program is not a successful defense to perjury.

Just the facts:

On May 3, 2011, Attorney General Eric Holder appeared before Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA) and the House Oversight Committee for questioning on Fast and Furious.

During questioning, Issa asked: “When did you first know about the program…called ‘Fast and Furious?”

Holder responded: “I’m not sure of the exact date, but I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks”

As I’ve written elsewhere, at the very moment Holder gave this answer, it was a safe bet he was being less than completely honest with the Congressional committee. But now the evidence, having become insurmountable in just the past 48 hours, makes it crystal clear that Holder lied to Issa and the House Oversight Committee.

Proof:

Reports CBS NEWS: “[Holder] was sent briefings back as far as 2010.” Briefings on Fast and Furious that is, beginning at least as early as July 2010. (In other words, Holder began receiving briefings on Fast and Furious “ten months before his May 3rd Congressional testimony.”)

And on October 18, 2010, documents show that Assistant Attorney General Lanny A. Breuer sent communiqués to Holder warning that indictments for Fast and Furious could come soon.

In response to this growing mound of evidence against him, Holder is now saying he “misunderstood that question from Congress [on May 3rd], that he did know about Fast and Furious, just not the details”

This is the same tired defense others under Holder have been making – that they knew about Fast and Furious but not about “the details,” i.e. about the guns being walked into Mexico. However, this just won’t fly. It’s an insult to common sense and runs counter to the facts available to the public at large.


For example, documents show that on October 22, 2010 a Deputy Attorney General sent Holder a memo in which he basically said he didn’t expect much trouble to arise if knowledge of gun walking became public, because it was already an excepted fact that U.S. guns were being used by Mexican gangs in Mexico.

The Deputy Attorney General’s exact words to Holder: “It’s not going to be a big surprise that a bunch of U.S. guns are being used in [Mexico], so I’m not sure how much grief we get for guns walking.”

The bottom line: Holder knew about Fast and Furious at least as early as July 2010, but on May 3rd he told the Congressional committee he had only known about it for a “few weeks.” This means he mislead Congress, a crime made even more egregious by the fact that he had received regular updates on Fast and Furious from July 2010 through May 2011.

Also, Holder has maintained he had no knowledge of guns walking into Mexico via Fast and Furious, but the October 22, 2010 memo proves he not only knew, but was told not to worry about it because no one would be surprised at U.S. guns in Mexico.

What is House Speaker John Boehner doing today? If it’s anything other than initiating impeachment proceedings against Holder, then he’s wasting our time.

Article II of the Constitution gives Congress the power to impeach “the president, the vice president and all civil officers of the United States.” And it’s time to use that power.

Holder lied, and hundreds died via Fast and Furious.

WASHINGTON - New documents obtained by CBS News show Attorney General Eric Holder was sent briefings on the controversial Fast and Furious operation as far back as July 2010. That directly contradicts his statement to Congress.

On May 3, 2011, Holder told a Judiciary Committee hearing, "I'm not sure of the exact date, but I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks."

Everyone who testifies before Congress does so under oath.  This makes Holder's statements perjury, a criminal act.

So where are you Mr. Issa?  Where's the formal (and very public) referral for prosecution?  Yeah, there might be a problem referring something back to the same department (Judiciary) where Holder sits, but does that mean you shouldn't do it?

No, it means you should do it, and then when rebuffed you then start impeachment proceedings.

It's time Mr. Issa.  We have dead people on both sides of the border here, and evidence that Fast and Furious may have been an intentional attempt to justify more gun control laws -- and not as an afterthought, but as a goal of the program.

If you have evidence of this, and there's chatter that you do, let's have it.  That's an act, if true, that borders on sedition as it is awfully close to a direct attempt to overthrow the Constitution literally by force.

The walls are closing in on Eric Holder, and the Justice Department, and White House are showing the strain.

Friday evening, the usual time for under-the-radar "document dumps" that get lower press coverage, the White House released new emails which showed extensive communication between former ATF Phoenix Special Agent in Charge William Newell and White House national security team staff over 'Operation Fast and Furious'. Fast and Furious sent thousands of weapons to cartel killers, hundreds of which have been found at crime scenes in the U.S. and Mexico, and an AK-47 from which murdered Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.

From the start, the Justice Department and White House has tried to limit the damage by blaming low-level ATF employees for the Operation. At a May 3 hearing, Attorney General Holder denied he knew anything about the disastrous operation prior to April 2011:

I’m not sure of the exact date but I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks.

However numerous documents have since revealed that Holder was in fact briefed in July 2010:

Clearly they expect the kind of misplaced "loyalty" they have received from other media outlets - which have for the most part tried to buried the scandal.

All this was clearly enough for the House GOP leadership to end the hearings and futile requests for information. So this afternoon, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-TX) formally requested a special prosecutor to investigate the Attorney General for perjury.

Allegations that senior Justice Department officials may have intentionally misled members of Congress are extremely troubling and must be addressed by an independent and objective special counsel. I urge you to appoint a special counsel who will investigate these allegations as soon as possible

This must not just be an open-ended "request" to Obama. The House GOP must add a deadline to this request, that if not met, will result in Articles of Impeachment to be drawn against Eric Holder to remove him from office, with criminal penalties to follow.

Do not mess around with this, Republicans. You owe it to the memory of one Brian A. Terry, an American hero, cut down in his prime by criminal malfeasance at this highest levels of this Administration.

The Justice Department's claim that Attorney General Eric Holder misunderstood a question from Congressman Darrell Issa regarding when Holder first knew about Operation Fast and Furious is now being questioned because additional video from the same hearing, showing Holder responding to essentially the same question from Congressman Jason Chaffetz, appears to contradict that assertion.

   Holder gave the same answer both times. Senator Charles Grassley issued a statement calling the Justice Department's claim that Holder misunderstood to be "disingenuous at best."

   According to new documents released last Friday by the White House, and covered by CBS News and other news agencies extensively in the past 24 hours, and discussed by this column, Holder was apparently briefed about Fast and Furious long before he said he was.

The new documents show that on November 1, 2010, Deputy Attorney General Lanny Breuer, the chief of the Justice Department’s criminal division, personally informed Holder about the operation in a briefing. The document was a memo Breuer wrote to Holder saying in which he included a brief description of Operation Fast and Furious.

Another document is a July 2010 memo from the director of the National Drug Intelligence Center to Holder that details how “straw purchasers” — enabled by Operation Fast and Furious — were responsible for the purchase of 1,500 guns that were then supplied to Mexican drug cartels.—Daily Caller

   The hearing was before the House Judiciary Committee on May 3. The video was uploaded the following day. Issa questioned Holder first about Fast and Furious, and the Chaffetz exchange with Holder comes afterward.

The Justice Department told CBS News that the officials in those emails were talking about a different case started before Eric Holder became Attorney General. And tonight they tell CBS News, Holder misunderstood that question from the committee - he did know about Fast and Furious - just not the details.—CBS News

   The video, available on YouTube, was brought to this column’s attention by a Capitol Hill source close to the Fast and Furious investigation. In it, Holder reacts to Chaffetz’ question about an interview President Barack Obama did with Univision in Mexico on March 22. Holder tells Chaffetz that he knew about the operation “probably before the president.”

   Responding to the contention that Holder misunderstood the question about when he was first aware of Fast and Furious, Sen. Charles Grassley issued the following statement to this column via e-mail:

“Attorney General Holder’s statements don’t add up. In May, the Attorney General told the House Judiciary Committee that he just learned of Fast and Furious a few weeks before. Yet, on January 31, in a previously scheduled meeting, I personally handed him two letters about Fast and Furious. Now, to find out he knew some pretty detailed information about the operation back in the summer of 2010, is troubling. In addition, the documents released last night showed several other people very high up in the Justice Department knew a great deal of information about Fast and Furious, including that guns were being walked. For the Justice Department to claim that they didn’t know ‘operational details’ is disingenuous at best.”

 

   It is not clear whether Holder was under oath when he appeared before the committee, but it is clear from Monday’s revelations that he apparently knew about Fast and Furious long before he acknowledged. The case appears to be unraveling at a fast and furious pace, and Monday’s Washington Times raised the stakes with an editorial that stated, in part:

The “Fast and Furious” gunrunning probe is creeping closer to the Obama White House. It appears administration officials were willing to sign off on just about anything to accomplish their ends, and the result of this botched operation has been over a hundred dead. Someone needs to be held accountable…

…While Republicans seek accountability for the Fast and Furious debacle, survivors of the operation’s victims are left to wonder if there is any difference between the bad guys and the good guys in the era of Obama justice. It’s an open question.
