Being compassionate when a person is down isn't socialism or a sign of Obama's socialist views. If it were, a very large portion of the United States would have to reconsider either their religion or their politics because they would be at odds. People aren't going to commit suicide because their parents get a letter home, it will still be because of deep seated depression or whetever else those guys are going through. Socialism is creating a system in which people live for the sake of the comfort of other people. Even if the kid were weaker than the others, which is entirely likely, showing compassion to the parents is still the right thing to do.
