24-Year-Old Stabs Mother And Sister To DeathSAN DIEGO -- A homicide investigation is under way Monday in Rancho Penasquitos, where a mother and daughter were found stabbed to death in a house and the older woman's 24-year-old son was taken into custody.
The homicide in the 9800 block of Paseo Montril was reported at 1:22 a.m., said San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros.
When San Diego police officers arrived they found a 52-year-old woman and an 18-year-old woman dead with stab wounds. The suspect was found outside the home next to the naked body of his sister, who might have been pushed to the ground from the second floor of the home, police said.
The San Diego Police Department identified the deceased as Donna Williams, 52, a detective with the SDPD, and her daughter Briana "Bree" Williams, 18.
During an early morning media briefing, the SDPD said that the mother and daughter were stabbed to death by the woman’s son. The son, 24-year-old Brian Rockwell Williams, was arrested after surrendering without incident and is currently in custody. Police believe Williams used a kitchen knife in the incident.
"He was very calm when the officers got there, and he followed their commands (and) was arrested without any incident," SDPD Capt. Jim Collins told reporters at a 10:30 a.m. press conference.
The motive for the attack was unclear. Preliminary evidence and interviews "only revealed there was a disturbance between the son, mother and daughter," SDPD homicide Lt. Ernie Herbert said.
Three neighbors called 911 after hearing screams, Collins said.
Collins said that on June 30, police were called to the residence for a disturbance and the incident was resolved without arrest.
Brian Williams was booked in County jail and is expected to be charged with two counts of murder, Collins said.
Briana Williams was a standout softball player who had just graduated from Mt. Carmel High School. She received a scholarship to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and was to report in the fall. She also played travel softball with the San Diego Renegades.
"I wish it was all a dream and we're going to wake up soon," said Bree's close friend, Nina Villanueva, as she fought back tears.
"She was really outgoing, always happy, always in a good mood [and] made people laugh and smile," said Tiana Castano, who lives next to the Williams family and grew up with Bree.
10News learned Det. Donna Williams is a 31-year veteran of the San Diego Police Department. She spent more than 20 years with the Child Abuse Unit and worked on prestigious cases, such as the kidnapping and murder of Danielle Van Dam in 2002.
The detective -- whose late husband, Howard Williams, also had been a San Diego police officer -- was a "cornerstone" of her division, Collins said.
"We are a family, and a case like this is devastating," he said.
