Contessa Brewer Leaves MSNBC Anchor Spot

Brewer, who arrived at the network in 2003, has been anchoring the noon hour on MSNBC and the weekend documentary series "Caught on Camera" for the past year and a half. Her last newscast will air on Friday, but TVNewser reports that she will continue to host “Caught” and work on other projects for NBC News and MSNBC.
Her tenure has been marked by notable interviews with Senator Judd Gregg and Pat Buchanan, as well as a few bloopers like when she mistakenly introduced Jesse Jackson as Al Sharpton. She memorably blasted President Obama's critics for using the expression "throws like a girl."
Prior to achieving the anchor spot, Brewer also briefly served as a newsreader on the "Imus in the Morning" radio show -- a position that ended after a public feud when she was allegedly overheard calling Imus a "cantankerous old fool" and Imus retaliated with his own vulgar comments.
Critics have called MSNBC's handling of Brewer's show "a missed opportunity," citing the network's lack of branding for the program and the amount of tape played during the hour.
The network has not announced plans for a replacement show, but the new program is expected to air after Labor Day with a substitute anchor filling in next week.
