Cenk forced out at MSNBC by Obama Admn?
« on: July 21, 2011, 05:53:12 AM »
HHHMMMMM - Obama not happy that Cenk was bashing him?

Cenk was removed due to "political pressure", Phil Griffin: MSNBC is "part of the establishment"

After giving a nearly six-month tryout for the Internet talk show host Cenk Uygur, the cable news channel MSNBC is preparing to instead hand its 6 p.m. time slot to the Rev. Al Sharpton.

*snip*

Mr. Uygur, who by most accounts was well liked within MSNBC, said in an interview that he turned down the new contract because he felt Mr. Griffin had been the recipient of political pressure. In April, he said, Mr. Griffin “called me into his office and said that he’d been talking to people in Washington, and that they did not like my tone.” He said he guessed Mr. Griffin was referring to White House officials, though he had no evidence for the assertion. He also said that Mr. Griffin said the channel was part of the “establishment,” and “that you need to act like it.”

I cant stand this guy but this situation continues to bring to light just how corrupt these TV networks are and how skewed the news they show really is. Its no wonder I barely turn my TV on anymore, total junk.

He says he was brought in to a meeting and told that people in Washington were not happy with him and that he needed to either tow the party line or else.

They said his tone against the admn was not in line with their position of being "insiders" and part of the establishment"

Not sure if I'm reading the article wrong or not, but it seems to indicate that Cenk turned down the contract, not that he was forced out.

Or maybe they are telling that you are going to do it the way we want or you won't have a job. So he turned it down.  Either way, dam.

HLN had better ratings than this dweeb. Good riddance.

Blacken downing vicodin and vodka by the fifth, tears streaming down his face, screaming, "WHY?"

Cenk is the best ever and will never sell out to anyone.  MSNBC actually offered him DOUBLE what they were paying if he were to stay on and he refused.  Cenk rules.

Nope, he walked away as he has his own way of doing things and his online show is the highest rated online show on the internet.  I enjoy it greatly as it covers all topics and not just politics.  He was offered twice what he was making by MSNBC and he decided to walk away.  That says a lot about the type of guy he is.

Cenk is the best ever and will never sell out to anyone.  MSNBC actually offered him DOUBLE what they were paying if he were to stay on and he refused.  Cenk rules.

MSNBC booted him from the 6 o'clock position to a "less prominent slot". You don't do that and pay them MORE MONEY, to be on the downside of the airwaves.

The Cenk Uygur experiment at MSNBC is officially over, with the outspoken host exiting in the same voluble manner that characterized his time there.

Uygur, who had hosted the news program “MSNBC Live” during the 6 p.m. hour, has left the network after it sought to move him to a less prominent slot. The host then went on his Internet show "The Young Turks" on Wednesday night to lash out at MSNBC brass, particularly president Phil Griffin, for requiring a coziness with power players.

"'People in Washington are concerned about your tone,'" Uygur said Griffin told him, a message he said he couldn't abide. He said the network was too concerned with access to politicans and newsmakers at the expense of sound judgment and skepticism.....

Uygur was moved from a paid contributor to the regular 6 p.m. host in January, after the departure of Keith Olbermann resulted in Ed Schultz's show moving out of that 6 p.m. slot. In his time at the network, Uygur provided a jolt of energy with an opinionated and lively tone — he was often critical of President Obama as much as he was certain Republican leaders — though his manner could be unpolished and rough around the edges. After respectable but not spectacular ratings, MSNBC at the end of June began trying out Sharpton.

"Respectable but not spectacular ratings" = Pay raise?? I doubt it.

Can't stand the guy but I can certainly respect his decision to tell MSNBC to get fucked and keeping his character intact, if this is really what went down.
