I do think it's some bullshit too... I mean, kids have been getting bullied for centuries and they end up being the ones who harden the fuck up and make shit happen later in life.

So this entire idea of "bullying" being some new and horrific thing is bullshit.

it might build character for you, but I'm going to guess you've never dealt with a 7 year old who slit her wrists because the skinny girls at school made fun of her looks.

Just because something might have worked for you personally doesn't mean it works the same for everybody.

Bullying has been around forever, but nobody should face it. Kinda like rape.

I think there's a gigantic difference in someone sexually assaulting you against your will, and someone calling you fat.  ::)

If kids can't deal with being picked on a little bit in school, how are they ever going to face the ass holes they'll encounter on a daily basis as adults?

I don't think we are talking about just name calling here.  That wouldn't be as big a deal, but physical harassment is what I am talking about and that needs to be strongly discouraged.

I don't know, kids still get bullied at school the old fashion way.  There other ways to build character in children.

how do you survive on this board? LMAO.. bullying is a good thing? they are kids meatbags, nobody likes a bully, i see a thread full of bullied pussies who act as if they loved it and were saving the neighborhood. Bullies are usual insecure pussies who pick on those that are smaller, ya great people to learn and garner character from.

I'm sorry but I don't see how a normal moral person can tell a 7 year old girl who slits her wrists because of societal pressure regarding physical attractiveness to "man up". I find that advice horrible, and I hope Tony as a psychology grad student will give us his take regarding whether children should be bullied.

You as a __ year old male have no idea what it feels like to be in a child's shoes and being bullied, so I don't think you can say for certain that "take it like a man" is the best advice in all cases. I'm sure you right now in your life recognize how lame bullying is and can get over it and pass it off as nothing, but you cannot dictate what action should be taken when the child becomes suicidal because of the bullying. Just like the issue with being a child and being bullied because other children think that child is gay. It's a tough place to be in, and I am in no way going to tell that child to "suck it up" or "get over it". I think its much more complicated than that.

no man up bro, it doesn;t have any affect on self-esteem and integrity.

Being bullied is how all the best people were created, look at the blacks, being called blacks and animals finally made them man up and ask for equality.

if you think its wrong to go tell a stranger as an adult that they are ugly and fat or should kill themselves now, why should it change as a kid, do these morals shift with age?

I was being sarcastic above.

In high school I had the size not to have to worry about it, though I did keep a lot of smaller guys from getting beat up.

But now, as a parent, if anybody bullies my kid, I'll be the first person that's in the face of the bullies parent.  Maybe I'm too overprotective, not sure, but I don't ever want kids getting pushed around.  Fuck that, they've got plenty of character.

I think being bullied, and bullying is an essential part of growing up and developing into a normal healthy adult.

This anti bullying shit is getting crazy.  I see more of this shit on the news every night.

WTF

I thought the dodge ball ban was bad, but they're getting even crazier than that!

Bullying isn't the same as it used to be especially with cyberbullying, it takes the shit to a whole new level.  A kid can no longer just leave the bullying at school.  Its now a 24 hour a day 7 days a week deal.  Not only that, kids are now packing guns and all sorts of crazy shit.

Take fighting for example.  I fought with my buddy Terrence back in the day and afterwards that shit was settled.  But now, people go and video that shit with the phones and show it to everyone, post it on Youtube and Facebook and as a result, it preserves it in history.  How can you squash beef if it keeps getting replayed over and over again???

Its not the same as it used to be back in the day.

That nutbag in Norway killed all those people with a pistol. I mention this because he had to reload multiple times....in a society that was full of sheepdogs instead of sheep..he might have been overpowered.

is this a serious argument? You're suggesting that we give children (or teenagers if you prefer that term) who have an underdeveloped cerebral cortex meaning they are incapable of fully calculating consequences (as shown by many many studies) guns to use at their discretion in case they feel a "sheepdog" is a threat?

I'm not sure what you mean.  Are you asking how "I" survive with all the bullying on the board?

People can learn character other ways.  No child needs to go to school and fear physical harm from other students.

I'm kinda shocked that nobody has seen the difference between the normal kind of bullying that happens verses the kind of bullying where many gang up on one and even carry that online to the point where some poor girl or boy kills themselves over it.

No, we didn't grow up with the possibility of being humiluated in from of millions, all we had to deal with was a couple jackasses back in the day.

I see a difference, I do, but really, doesn't it say something about the support system of this child in question?

Where are the parents? Why does the child feel like no one notices? I talk to my kids... That support system is what it's there for.

Societies where the kids are'nt cuddled wussies wouldn't allow this. Where the hell where the adults.....the guy had a crowd around him when he started firing, everybody ran.  In Arizona the guy got tackled.

I would presume it would easy to see it that way from your point of view considering what you do, however, they were both very different situations just as others are.

I worry for a society that rolls over and takes it. I've trained with the Norwegians...good troops but we called em hippies on ski's.

We don't need to run around like spartans but come on.....kids are growing up soft, and we're becoming softer as a society. This softness does things like prolong economic down-turns...everything builds on everything else.
