Taurus is not a high end gun and results may vary. I suggest you take it to a shooting range, shoot a couple hundred rounds to verify reliability. A gun that jams or double feeds is useless as a self defense weapon. After about 500 rds you should have a good idea if you got a good one or a POS.

I also have a Colt 45. which is an antique but has been in my family for a very long time.  It looks almost brand new despite being ancient.  I have never fired it though.  Should I have someone also check it out of I were to bring it to a shooting range to make sure it is safe and operable?  Does it lose value if I fire it?  I see videos of people firing antique guns, but I have also read not to fire them.

Colt 45 as in a wheel gun/6 shooter? If the gun has been sitting for a very long time it would be a good idea to have a competent gunsmith take a look at it before shooting it. You can fire antique firearms, not really going to effect the value unless you shoot thousands of round through it.

Taurus is hot or miss, you get a good one you are fine. They are a production weapon, if you want a reliable out of the box semi custom weapon you go Wilson Combat, Ed Brown, NightHawk....... but they are high dollar. Most people would be more than satisfied with a Springfield Armory or Dan Wesson

I read about misfiring and double feed issues, but this design apparently has corrected that.  I probably will never ever use it so it may not even matter.

The Colt is a Single Action , 6 shot revolver with a glass case for display.  I think the last time it was fired was sometime in the 50s or 60s, but it looks brand new.

DEPENDS.   Have glock, AK, and Mossberg 500 cruiser in the office,

House is like ft knox.

Usually carry Glock 26.

I carry just about 24/7.  Kinda silly not to in such an uncertain world.  Best to put the odds in your favor when you can.  

I would recommend a permit.  At the very least, keep in your vehicle, if your state's law allows for it.

it's peace of mind.  I've carried for 14 years now.  It's just another tool to bring for your day.

1911 is a good weapon, but it has to be setup correctly, or it will be a problem child. For simply self defense a Glock or S&W MP would do the job.

I knew a judge to sign my full carry permit.  it was not easy at all to get.

There are loopholes to some extent, just not worth the hassle. Thought we had it this year, but shit fell apart at the last minute as usual.

I would have a competent gunsmith look it over, he can also tell you exactly what you have and probably the value of the weapon. Notice I specified competent gunsmith, don't let any jackass get there hands on your weapon.

I have a real old 1911, that's never been fired.  I've wondered the same thing!

I have a very old 1911...no issues but take to a smith. I carry off and on. If you don't have a history with firearms and have never been trained...dont carry unless u take more schooling then just the class to get the permit.

In your case you need to find a good 1911 gunsmith, they usually aren't easy to find.All depends on your location

I would always get a license before carry, but i know a ton of people in Texas that carry without a permit.

I hope i never have to use it, but i have trained many years just in case some idiot decides to try something.

Yeah...sorry mine was taken to one when I got it. My next door neighbor here in KY was a gun smith with the folks at Bragg. I shoot with him regularly. He's a Vietnam vet.....waaaaaaaay outshoots me, but he supplies the ammo and stories.


Texas is gun heaven. I bought my S&W .40 XD from a dealer there. After I paid I was waiting for the paper work and other crap I've seen from some states...he stared at me like I was an idiot and said that was it. Gotta love Texas.

I think there has been one theft in my city for the year so far and it was from an empty house for sale, copper wiring is what they took.  There have been no other crimes listed other than traffic tickets for speeding.  There is absolutely no crime here, but I guess its better safe than sorry right?

Never owned a Taurus but my bro and pop have owned several, Ive always heard they were hit and miss but all except one of theirs has worked perfectly but the one that has had problems has had alot. I think it has been sent back to Taurus 2 maybe 3 times already.
