Repping out with 225 on Squat
« on: August 05, 2011, 05:54:14 PM »
What is a respectable amount of reps, squatting with 225, going all out, to the death?

I think 30 is already respectable (full squats [hamstring to calf]).

I do 50 half reps of 225 on squats. No power rack so 225 is as high as i go. Anything higher and it will turn in to an upper body workout having to clean+lower the weight on my shoulders.

Depends a lot on how deep you squat

Since i realized that i could grow from low rep squats i havent bothered with high rep squats anymore.  They burn me out physically and mentally.

I saw a guy do 140kg for 20 reps in a youtube video.  That was pretty impressive, since they were full squats.

if you havnt done high rep leg work you are missing out, separates the men from the boys.... for me personaly, anything under 10/12 reps is too low, as u can force the weight from a to b with legs and still not feel it how you should

i could add another 4 plates each side of the leg press and do full range presses for 8 or so reps, and the only place id feel it is my hips, but when u do a slow, sqeezing 20+ set its somthing else completely

I did 30 reps (attg) a few weeks back, my reprange is generally 1-5. Feels like you're paralyzed after rep 20. High reps suck.

exactly! from 20 to 30 reps on legs is the way to go, only thing is that its the most painful thing you can do in the gym, but no pain no gain! except on the leg extention and curl machines, maybe 12-15 reps, extremely slooooww movement and burn the shit out of those legs

Definitely - I never go below 12 reps on any leg exercise - once I hit 15 with ease it's time to increase the weight again. Long gone are the days when I would put 15 plates a side on the leg press and do 8-10 half reps and think I was mass-building the quads.

I've hit 315 for 31, drug-free and ass-to-grass.

Here's a video of me doing 315 for 25:
&index=81

I had been in a car for six hours travelling to see my friend and train at this gym, Bodybuilders Inc., in Akron, Ohio (so I was sluggish from the ride), hadn't done reps over five or six for several months and had done bench press first, doing multiple sets of 10 with 315 for 10 and then going up to 405.

P.S. I do believe with a month of specificity training, I could now do over 40. The 31 was about four years ago and I am much stronger now, but I am not used to high reps.
