Stiff Leg Dead Lifts
« on: August 09, 2011, 08:04:46 AM »
Necessary to completely grow the Hamstrings, give them a better hang, and complete look (in hormonized bodybuilder)?

Although I constantly find myself going back to try this movement, I never seem to completely feel it in my hamstrings.  I feel it much more with various leg curls and hypers while holding the peak contraction.

try lowering the weight, i dont go much over 225 and do slow controled reps. I also do not go all the way up, keeps tension on the hams and not on the lower back.  Also make sure your legs have a slight bend, some guys lock their legs out completely.

yep dunno why, i could do 10 sets of full range contraction hams curls and not get as sore as if i did 3-4 sets of stiff leg dl, excercise which the hams doesnt even get a full contraction...

Yes I'm the same.  I don't really do ham curls except a pump set or two at the end.  I think it's just due to the heavier weights of SLDL.

I've always struggled with these - how far up are you supposed to come?

These two are the best ham exercises

REGULAR deficit deads. Don't worry about feeling it in the hams. Just do them like a regular dead and hams will be hit hard.

Glute-ham raise

Add a set or two of machine curls.

i stop short of standing straight up, with db's to the side of your body instead of the bar in front its a much easier movement to feel, my lower back gets too much work with the bar

for anyone's size defiecit deads are rough.
as far as doing stiff deads for hams..use little weight and stretch them at the bottom and squeeze them at the top. i go up to 650 on reg deads but only use 185 to 225 on stiff deads after all the ham curls that i do

Cool thanks - I'll try it with the dumbells for a change as I get a lot of lower back strains from the bar too.

Whats the best foot placement on SLDL to target hams? Feet tight together or shoulder width apart?

Here you go...watch the video carefully and copy the technique hes using.

You wont have any problems feeling your hamstrings this way.

Interesting, he doesn't seem to be going that low and keeps the knees locked from what I can see.  He's definitely squeezing the glutes and hams at the top.  I'm gonna give this way a shot.
