I'm honestly curious.  What is your honest opinion of what would have happened with no bailouts and no stim?  Please be honest and not political.  I'm not going to attack you, just give me your honest opinion.

getting ready for work but ill answer when I get home tonight, basic answer is nothing really different.

bail outs may have had a short term positive effect, the stimulus was basically wasted imho...ill go into why later

lets refrase the same question: the crash hit months before Obama took office, we all know that much.  Lets assume that Obama opposed all of the bailouts and stims, what would have happened and what would have been the rightwing response in the aftermath?

Can you answer honestly?

well first let me say that I didnt think that the stimulus was necissarily a bad idea. It was undoubtedly implemented in a horrible pet project way that had little immediate beneficial impact and massive long term impact.

also we cant simply eliminate these two while still taking into account the other obama idiocies mainly the health care bill that has stifled the economy.

The bailouts screwed the private investors especially in GM(if im not mistaken) in which the obama administration had a hand in. THAT IS UNPRECEDENTED interference by the govt by the way. Now that being said the bail outs taking away the long term negative effects that probably will result having the UAW being one of the biggest stake holders in major car companies did have a short term benefit.

I think the idea that it prevented so many lay offs was beneficial at least in the short term. Their will be negative consequences down the road for sure but we can kick that can a little further.

Quick summary:

More severe pain short-term, quicker recovery, would already be on the road to healing.

Instead we're just trudging along like a fucking zombie.

The stimulus on the other hand basically a complete and total failure. The problem is the govt doesnt produce anything so how is it going to stimulate demand?

I understand the idea that if they give money out they can stimulate demand but they are first taking that money from someone else and then AFTER TAKING A CUT distributes that to others to spend. So in effect what we have is a net loss of money, b/c the amount taken away is less than the amount given out when you factor in their cut.

Now the govt does provide services(infrastructure, police, fire etc.) that their may have already had demand there. The bulk of the stimulus werent spent on these and that was the problem. If you build roads in desired areas, businesses see potential store fronts etc. If you have alot of crime you can employee police officers to help stop it. You dont build roads into no where and employee ppl where there is no need.

This is all outside of the majority of the spending which was pet project like bs of course.

The stimulus was nothing more than a nearly $1 trillion payoff to Obama's union thugs and various other people that contributed to his campaign. It was never intended to stimulate anything more than a select group's wallets.

what pisses me off is that they put the UAW infront of the bond holders...the ppl legally entitled to the money...

just pure bullshit
