Okay, I agree with this. Ronnie was a freak.

But in all seriousness, the last half of his Olympia career saw his physique progressively looking worse and worse - his belly became bloated, his definition and separation started disappearing, his balance was going...

In my view, no matter how many titles he wins, that is nothing to be proud of.

Ronnie is a legend.

Honestly, I don't know why.

I know why Zane is a legend. I understand why Haney is a legend.

Judging should be rewarding perfection rather than awesomeness. A bodybuilder who can maintain perfection is deserving of being called a legend. Arnold's physique didn't get worse. Zane's physique never got worse. Haney's physique never got worse.

Why does Ronnie, whose physique got worse and worse each Olympia, get called a legend?

Honestly, I don't understand why.

Yes, he looks great there, no doubt about it but that was only for a couple of years.

He became more and more bloated, lost his separation and just looked shit in general.

If he had kept up his early form, sure, he is a legend.

You don't know much about BBing history, do you?

Arnold is constantly criticized for his '80 appearance, for no legs, being too small and taking half the amount of time he usually did to prepare for the contest. Some say he lost in 72 to Sergio, or that he shouldn't have won in 70- which Arnold himself said "Sergio was just as good if not better than me that day, but I won based on how I posed since Sergio forgot I was even there."

Zane didn't get worse? Perhaps you forget that he was in obscurity before he even won his first Olympia, taking a decade or so to win it, after beating Arnold and then getting trounced by Arnold for much of the time it took for him to win the O.

Haney didn't get worse? What about the drug tested Olympia, where many people showed up off, including Lee.

The human body can't take going all out for a number of years, and that's why everyone declines. Everyone. Including Arnold, Zane, Yates, Ronnie and your average gym rat.

There's a Rutger Hauer quote from Blade Runner that applies..."The light that burns twice as bright, burns half as long. And you have burned so very, very brightly, Roy."

Arnold didn't get progressively worse , 1980 he was on just smaller than usual , he wrapped up 1975 in outstanding condition

Zane , same thing he didn't get worse like the erics is commenting on

Haney finished his career ontop with his best showing ever , 1990 was a fluke and most people looked off

Ronnie always maintained his best Olympia was his first and it was because he was spot-on , erics makes a valid point that Ronnie got progressively worse in terms of his physique but it was still good enough to beat the guys he was competing with .

My rebuke towards Eric was that everyone comes in off...do I agree with this "dynasty" crap that the Mr O wins for years and years on end? No way. I think the best guy onstage should win, and EVERY year someone seems to show up better, most guys only have one or two good showings.

Bodybuilding history is interesting.

Quote
Arnold is constantly criticized for his '80 appearance, for no legs, being too small and taking half the amount of time he usually did to prepare for the contest...

Arnold maintained a quality physique during his competitive years. After 1975, Arnold was no longer a competitive bodybuilder so 1980 should be seen as an ad-lib moment. He looked great for only 8 weeks training but it's a no brainer that the judges screwed up royally by giving him the title that year.

Quote
Some say he lost in 72 to Sergio, or that he shouldn't have won in 70- which Arnold himself said "Sergio was just as good if not better than me that day, but I won based on how I posed since Sergio forgot I was even there."

Arnold's physique wasn't regressing during those years. His victories, and whether he deserved them or not, are issues of judging.

Quote
Zane didn't get worse? Perhaps you forget that he was in obscurity before he even won his first Olympia, taking a decade or so to win it, after beating Arnold and then getting trounced by Arnold for much of the time it took for him to win the O.

Zane didn't get worse. Perhaps others got better, but Zane never got worse.

His being in obscurity before his first Olympia win doesn't mean anything. His phsyique was always improving and it took him a decade for him to improve enough to win the Olympia.

Quote
Haney didn't get worse? What about the drug tested Olympia, where many people showed up off, including Lee.

No, Haney didn't get worse and worse over time. Everyone is allowed to come in off every now and then, but Haney's physique never displayed a consistent regression in quality over time.

Here is Ronnie 2004 compared to 1998 , the difference is painfully obvious this is what erics is touching on

he looked like a stud there, big frame, small waist, incredible shape the muscle would just pop out of his body when flexing, best genetics ever simply.

What I am really touching on is what makes someone 'a legend'.

Sure, Coleman won 8 Olympia titles and a million pro-titles. Yes, he dominated for a decade, no questions there. Sure, his form in his first couple of Olympia wins was incredible! You'll get little argument from me there.

But irrespective of these facts, his physique, in and of itself, simply got worse and worse. Does that say something about the quality of his competitors? Does it say something about the judging process? Does it say something about the influence of image creation in the media? Whatever it suggests, it doesn't change the fact that his physique progressively got worse and worse.

If Ronnie's legend status is due to his first couple of wins, okay, I can understand that. That means that Samir is a legend because of his 1983 form, after all, he too got worse over time.

But if it is not because of his first couple of wins, then no, I don't understand why Ronnie gets the status of legend.
