RMV at the wheel: Time to cry uncle, Onyango
By Michael Graham  |   Thursday, September 1, 2011  |  http://www.bostonherald.com
Op-Ed

You want to solve Massachusetts’ illegal immigration problem? Easy: Hand it over to the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

Because if Rachel Kaprielian and her government goons were in charge of enforcing these paperwork issues, Uncle Omar would have been rounded up long ago. Believe me, I know.

Two years ago, the Framingham police arrested me on orders from the RMV because I was driving with a revoked license. The fact that it was due entirely to a government paperwork error was irrelevant. The fact that the RMV’s policy at the time (and still is, as far as I know) was to revoke licenses without notifying drivers also made no difference.

I sat in the same Framingham jail that Obama Onyango should have been locked up in long ago.

Thousands of Massachusetts drivers have had the same experience: Some minor paperwork glitch or lost ticket for a long-forgotten infraction, and . . . BAM! There’s a soccer mom stuck on the side of the road with crying kids while the RMV tows away the family van. No excuses. No “what about the children?” angst. When your paperwork isn’t in order, you pay the price.

Period.

Now consider the case of Uncle Omar. As an illegal immigrant with a deportation order against him he somehow had a valid Massachusetts drivers license (a crime); a current and valid Social Security number (bigger crime); and was using these documents to submit tax documents to the Internal Revenue Service and the state Department of Revenue.

When an illegal immigrant is ordered deported, what happens to his Social Security number? Don’t ask. Well you can, but the Obama administration refuses to answer the question.

But we already know the answer. What happens is nothing. An American citizen forgets to update his car registration and he can get dragged into court. A criminal immigrant ignores a deportation order and spends 10 years sending the IRS his accurate mailing address and . . . nothing.

Outrages like the Obama case aren’t exceptions or oddities or even political favoritism. Gov. Deval Patrick said earlier this week that “illegal is illegal,” and President Barack Obama has repeatedly urged enforcement of immigration laws. If they’re serious, here are three simple, non-controversial steps politicians could take tomorrow:

First, the Social Security Administration could connect the numbers they give immigrants to their visa status. Once an immigrant’s status becomes illegal, give him 90 days and then revoke the Social Security number.

Second, when an immigrant gets a deportation order, simply cancel his Social Security number.

Finally, follow up on the millions of “no-match” letters the Social Security Administration has sent out to employers since 2004. When businesses know they’ll be fined starting 90 days after the letter arrives if the issue hasn’t been resolved, illegal workers will get replaced by (currently unemployed) legal residents. And the fines will more than cover the cost of enforcement.

More jobs for Americans, more revenue for the government and more justice for all. Simply by treating illegal immigrants the same way we Massachusetts drivers are treated.

So why won’t the president implement any of these policies? Because they would work.

Nicholas Guaman, charged with vehicular homicide in the death of Matthew Denice, and Onyango are part of our national immigration kabuki dance. Politicians pretend to enforce the law and illegal immigrants pretend to be afraid.

But until the next Obama Onyango is more worried about his paperwork status than a Massachusetts driver without an inspection sticker, the system will remain a joke.

Michael Graham hosts an afternoon drive time talk show on 96.9 WTKK.

they should make uncle Omar be Mitt's running mate in 2012.

That would be highly entertaining.

White House: No special treatment of Obama's uncle
Salon ^ | Sep 01, 2011 | By Associated Press

The White House says it expects the arrest of President Barack Obama's illegal immigrant uncle to be handled like any other immigration case.

Press Secretary Jay Carney also said Thursday that Obama didn't know about the case involving his distant relative until being informed about it by staff.

Brown: ‘Uncle Omar’ should be deported
The Hill ^ | 09/07/11 | Justin Sink
Posted on September 7, 2011 10:10:35 AM EDT by markomalley

Sen. Scott Brown (R-Ma.) said Tuesday that Onyango Obama, President Barack Obama's long-lost uncle, should be deported from the United States after being arrested last week on drunk driving charges.

"Well, yeah. He's here illegally. He's obviously broken the law. I don't know enough about the details of the case, but, God, he's been running around for how long now?" Brown said in an interview on the Howie Carr Show. "Let him go through the process and see what happens."

Brown said that "in a fair world," Obama's uncle would be deported.

Onyango Obama, 67, was arrested last Wednesday when he nearly rammed his SUV into a police car in Framingham, Massachusetts. When asked if he would like to make a phone call, Onyango reportedly said, "I think I will call the White House."

The White House said last week that the president was unaware that his uncle was in the United States illegally, and would not intervene on his behalf.

"We expect it to be treated - and I refer you to ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] and DHS [the Department of Homeland Security] - like any other immigration case," White House spokesman Jay Carney said.

Onyango came to the United States to attend school, but ultimately dropped out. He was ordered to leave the country in 1992, but remained in the country and has worked at a liquor store for the past five years.

Onyango has pled not guilty to the charges stemming from his drunk driving arrest, and is currently being held in a Plymouth County, Ma. jail. Onyango's lawyer said that he will fight a potential deportation, arguing that he has been in the United States for nearly 50 years.

During the 2008 campaign, Zeituni Onyango -- Obama's aunt -- was found to be living as an illegal immigrant in public housing in South Boston. "Aunt Zeituni" had sought political asylum in 2002, but was ultimately denied. After a series of legal appeals, she was granted a waiver of deportation in 2010, in a decision that angered many anti-immigration activists.

Brown is currently enjoying a modest lead over possible Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren in the 2012 Massachusetts Senate race. 44 percent of voters favor Brown, versus 35 percent for Warren, according to a WBUR poll released Tuesday.

Obama’s uncle quietly released from jail
 ONYANGO OBAMA
By Maria Sacchetti
Globe Staff / September 9, 2011

Officials released President Obama’s uncle from Plymouth County jail yesterday after holding him for more than two weeks on an immigration detainer for violating an order to return to his native Kenya in 1992.

Tweet 34 people Tweeted this.ShareThis .US officials refused to disclose any other information about Onyango Obama, who remained in the United States undetected until Framingham police arrested him Aug. 24 on drunken driving and other charges.

Yesterday, federal immigration officials refused to say whether the 67-year-old Framingham resident posted bond, whether they are keeping track of his whereabouts, or even whether they are still seeking his deportation, raising questions about public accountability in the case.

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement website confirmed Obama’s release by listing him as “not in custody.’’

Although the website confirmed it, Brian P. Hale, an agency spokesman, said he would not comment on the case because privacy laws and the agency’s policies prohibit it. He said the database is accurate, however.

As a result of the immigration agency’s refusal to discuss the case, it is unclear what happened to Obama after he left the Plymouth County House of Correction - or whether he could be returned to jail.

An official at the Plymouth County House of Correction who would not give his name said yesterday afternoon that Obama was no longer in custody. He had been taken to Burlington, where US Immigration and Customs Enforcement has offices, he said.

In Framingham, the people who shared a modest frame house with Obama on a residential street said they did not know where he was. A co-worker at Conti Liquors, where Obama worked, said they had not heard of his release.

His Cleveland lawyers, Margaret Wong and Scott Bratton, were unavailable for comment, and an assistant said they had not been notified that he was released.

Onyango Obama was the half-brother of the president’s late father. At the time of his arrest, Obama allegedly told Framingham police, “I think I will call the White House’’ to arrange bail.

But last week the White House press secretary, Jay Carney, said the president did not expect his uncle to receive special treatment.

Jessica Vaughan, director of policy studies at the Center for Immigration Studies, which favors tougher limits on immigration, said the immigration agency should be more transparent, especially in a case involving a relative of the president. She said the public deserves to know the circumstances of Obama’s release, since he violated a deportation order and is accused of drunken driving. In a criminal court, she said, that would be public information.

Obama pleaded not guilty in Framingham District Court to charges of drunken driving, negligent operation, and failing to yield.

“This whole nonsense about privacy is a policy,’’ Vaughan said. “It’s not the law. It’s a choice that [the immigration agency] is making. I think it’s very cowardly on [the agency’s] part, to be honest. Their behavior shows that they don’t want to be accountable to anybody.’’

Obama is the second relative from the president’s distant paternal side to have violated immigration law. Onyango Obama’s younger sister, Zeituni Onyango, violated a deportation order and lived quietly in Boston public housing until days before her nephew’s historic election in 2008, when her illegal status was leaked to the media. Based in part on the leak, and her increased exposure, a Boston immigration judge granted her asylum last year.

Onyango Obama came to America in 1963 to attend a prestigious preparatory school in Cambridge but dropped out and was initially ordered to leave the country in 1989. He appealed to the Board of Immigration Appeals, but lost in 1992.

Earlier this month, Bratton said Obama would fight deportation and hoped to remain in the United States. Obama has lived here for almost 50 years, since he was a young man under the limited supervision of the president’s late father.

Obama had worked for the past five years at Conti Liquors in Framingham, where he was praised as a good worker and beloved employee.

House chairman: Obama uncle’s got ‘backdoor amnesty’

The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee said Friday that President Obama's half-uncle, an illegal immigrant who was picked up but has reportedly been released from jail, appears to have benefited from the new "backdoor amnesty" the administration announced last month.

"It appears there is a double standard — one for President Obama's family and one for everyone else," Rep. Lamar Smith, Texas Republican, said. "Last year, President Obama's illegal immigrant aunt was granted asylum and now his illegal immigrant uncle has been released from [the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agency] custody, even though he was arrested by authorities for drunk driving."

Mr. Smith said the case will be the first "test case" for a new Homeland Security policy announced last month that gives immigration authorities more discretion to let illegal immigrants go, rather than pursue efforts to deport them.

The Boston Globe reported Friday that Onyango Obama, the half-brother of the president's father, was released from jail Thursday after being held for more than two weeks on an immigration detainer after he was arrested on a drunk-driving charge.

Asked about the case last week, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told reporters she couldn't comment on a specific matter and didn't know enough about the incident.

A White House spokesman said last week that he did not expect the man to receive special treatment.

The Globe said it was unclear where the president's uncle was.

He has a DUI, not a robbery or a murder charge.  This would even be a story if his last name wasn't Obama.  You can't expect anyone to be responsible for every single family members actions.

Well, there's two options...either spend 24k to deport him or let him stay and go back to work at the liquor store where he pays taxes.... ::)

Rep. Smith: ‘Uncle Omar’ shows Obama double standard
By Justin Sink - 09/09/11 12:05 PM ET

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) on Friday accused the White House of intervening on behalf of the president’s uncle after Onyango Obama was released from jail Thursday.

Onyango Obama was arrested in August for allegedly driving under the influence and nearly hitting a police car. He has been held in a Massachusetts jail since then on subsequent charges that he violated a court order to return to his native Kenya in 1992.

“It appears there is a double standard — one for President Obama’s family and one for everyone else,” Smith said in a news release. “Last year, President Obama’s illegal immigrant aunt was granted asylum and now his illegal immigrant uncle has been released from [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] custody, even though he was arrested by authorities for drunk driving.”

Federal immigration officials have declined to say why Onyango Obama was released or if they continue to seek his deportation. It is possible that the president’s uncle simply posted bail.

The White House insisted that the president was unaware that his uncle was in the United States illegally, and would not intervene on his behalf.

“We expect it to be treated — and I refer you to ICE and [the Department of Homeland Security] — like any other immigration case,” White House press secretary Jay Carney said.

But Smith said he sees the release of the president’s uncle as endemic of problems with the president’s recently announced immigration policy, in which officials were instructed to exercise prosecutorial discretion in deportation cases. Under that policy, the government would focus resources on deporting those considered national security or public safety threats. Smith requested in August that DUI arrests be considered severe enough to demand deportation proceedings, but DHS denied that request.

“President Obama’s backdoor amnesty allows drunk-driving illegal immigrants like his uncle to remain in the U.S.,” Smith said. “His immigration policies are a risk to both public safety and American lives. Why should citizens and legal immigrants be threatened by drunk driving illegal immigrants when the administration can deport them?”

Smith went on to say that the case was evidence that the president was “siding with illegal immigrants and not the American people.”

Smith is not the only Republican to argue that the president’s uncle should be deported. On Wednesday, Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) said that “in a fair world,” Onyango Obama would be forced to return to Kenya.

“Well, yeah. He’s here illegally. He’s obviously broken the law,” Brown said in an interview on the “Howie Carr Show.”

“I don’t know enough about the details of the case, but, God, he’s been running around for how long now? Let him go through the process and see what happens.”

Obama's Uncle is quietly released from jail and no one is keeping track of him
Ed Lasky
www.americanthinker.com

Here we go again. Anyone surprised?

The Boston  Globe's Maria Sacchetti reports:

Officials released President Obama's uncle from Plymouth County jail yesterday after holding him for more than two weeks on an immigration detainer for violating an order to return to his native Kenya in 1992.

US officials refused to disclose any other information about Onyango Obama, who remained in the United States undetected until Framingham police arrested him Aug. 24 on drunken driving and other charges.

Yesterday, federal immigration officials refused to say whether the 67-year-old Framingham resident posted bond, whether they are keeping track of his whereabouts, or even whether they are still seeking his deportation, raising questions about public accountability in the case.

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement website confirmed Obama's release by listing him as "not in custody.''

Onyango seemed blithely unconcerned when he was arrested a brief time ago for drunk driving. At the time of his arrest, Obama allegedly told Framingham police, "I think I will call the White House to arrange bail."  Must be nice to have friends in high places!

Immigration experts expressed dismay. One of them, Jessica Vaughan said that "the public deserves to know the circumstances of Obama's release, since he violated a deportation order and is accused of drunken driving. In a criminal court, she said, that would be public information."

Onyango joins yet another Obama relative to have violated our immigration laws. His younger sister, Obama's aunt, violated a deportation order involving her illegal immigration status. When her lawbreaking was revealed, a Boston immigration judge granted her asylum.

The liberal and Barack Obama-loving Boston Globe had to throw in this last line:

Obama had worked for the past five years at Conti Liquors in Framingham, where he was praised as a good worker and beloved employee.

Of course, that is completely irrelevant and trivial. What does that have to do with the article? Are we supposed to be okay with his being released and continuing to be a lawbreaker because he was a good employee at a liquor store? Recall, his last arrest occurred because he was driving while drunk.  What if his next arrest is for killing people driving while drunk?  This is not a man who works in a hospice or works for the Red Cross.  This is a man who peddles alcohol to people.  Who cares if he is a beloved employee?  "Beloved" -- isn't that a little over the top?

Anyone keeping track of how many days Barack Obama's relatives have been breaking the law in America and getting a pass from our officials?

Rep. King says Judiciary Committee should question Obama's 'Uncle Omar'
By Justin Sink - 09/12/11 03:56 PM ET

Rep. Steve King (R-IA), a member of the House Judiciary Committee, said Monday that Congress should question President Obama's uncle Onyango Obama to see if he received preferential treatment during his deportation proceedings.

"We have to bring drunken 'Uncle Omar' in front of the House Judiciary Committee, drill down into this, and tell America what's going on," King said on Fox News.

Onyango was arrested last month for allegedly driving under the influence and nearly hitting a police car. He had been held in a Massachusetts jail on charges stemming from a 1992 immigration order to return to his native Kenya, but was released last Thursday.

"If any one of us … nearly ran over a police officer, we would face the full fury of the law," King said.

The congressman went on to say that he believed that the president's uncle would receive preferential treatment from the Department of Homeland Security, and cited the case of the president's aunt, who was discovered living in Boston as an illegal immigrant during the 2008 election. An immigration judge reversed an original court order and granted Zeituni Onyango, the president's aunt, political asylum in 2010.

"I watched as President Obama's aunt, Zeituni Onyango, also evaded [Immigration and Customs Enforcement]," King said. "The sympathy, the bleeding heart, of [Department of Homeland Security Director] Janet Napolitano decided to use an administrative authority to grant President Obama's aunt asylum."

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) said last week that he believed that Onyango's release on his own recognizance was indicative of unfair influence.

The White House has said that they have not tried to intervene on Onyango's behalf.

“We expect it to be treated — and I refer you to ICE and [the Department of Homeland Security] — like any other immigration case,” White House press secretary Jay Carney said.

But Republicans see the case as an opportunity to hit the president on his recently announced immigration policy, in which officials were instructed to exercise prosecutorial discretion in deportation cases. Under that policy, the government would focus resources on deporting those considered national security or public safety threats.

Obama's Uncle Due in Court in Drunk Driving Case
Published September 29, 2011 | Associated Press

President Barack Obama's uncle is expected to appear in a Massachusetts court on a drunken driving charge.

Onyango Obama pleaded not guilty after he was arrested last month in Framingham. Police allege that he registered a reading of 0.14 percent on a blood-alcohol breath test, which is above the state's legal driving limit of 0.08 percent.

Obama, who is originally from Kenya, is the half-brother of the president's late father.

He was initially held without bail on a detainer from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials on allegations he violated an order issued nearly two decades ago to return to Kenya.

He was later released and ordered to regularly check in with immigration officials.

He is scheduled to appear in Framingham District Court on Thursday.

President’s illegal uncle giggles in court

A giggling Onyango Obama -- the president’s illegal alien half uncle -- made a brief appearance in Framingham District Court today on charges he was drunk when he nearly struck an unmarked police cruiser last month.

Obama, 67, was visibly amused at the media spectacle, stifling laughter several times before his 30-second court appearance where a judge set a Nov. 17 pre-trial conference.

Obama did not acknowledge a Herald reporter’s questions upon arrival at Framingham District Court and neither he nor his lawyer made any comment on his way out where they were followed to the parking lot by a horde of media.

His attorney, P. Scott Bratton, did, however, tell the Herald that Obama, who has been living illegally in the United States for nearly 20 years, has returned to work at Conti Liquors in Framingham.

"He has. He’s doing well," Bratton said.

Obama was accompanied in court today by two attorneys and an unidentified male supporter. The courtroom was packed with some members of the media, but mostly with other defendants hauled in for the usual round of arraignments at the county court located in suburban Boston.

Onyango, who had a valid driver’s license and Social Security card when he was arrested last month, was in the U.S. illegally having already faced a 1992 deportation order. Immigration officials have ordered him to "check in" with them.

When he was arrested by Framingham police on suspicion of drunken driving Aug. 24, he suggested his first call should be to the White House. A spokesman for the president told the Herald that call was never made. He actually called his boss at Conti’s Liquors.

Middlesex District Attorney Gerard T. Leone has also vowed to prosecute Obama to the fullest extent possible on the OUI charge.

Agree.  We should not allow an illegal to stay.  Make them do it the right way.

Its a double edged sword.  Either you end up spending billions of dollars to deport illegals (raise taxes) or you let them stay and face the wrath of people accusing them of taking American Jobs.

Personally, I don't really care what they do with him or any other illegal.  You can order an illegal to leave but if they don't have the money for a plane ticket or bus fare to travel back to the country then you can't complain about them still being in the country and obviously he doesn't have any money to return seeing as he works at a Liquor store.

Spending Billions to deport these leeches vs the billions spent on corrupt solar companies is far better IMHO.

President Obama's Uncle: Picture Proof ... He's Still Selling 80 Proof

The pictures tell the story ... President Obama's uncle, wheeling and dealing behind a liquor store counter.  So there's no doubt, he's still dodging the deportation bullet ... at least for now.

Onyango Obama was busted for DUI August 24th in Framingham, Massachusetts ...after almost smashing into a cop car.  Immigration officials learned about the arrest, and then discovered the 67-year-old was in the U.S. illegally.  In fact, Onyango was on the receiving end of a 1992 deportation order, but it was never enforced.

While Onyango challenges the deportation order, the pictures show ... he's making a living at the Conti Liquor Store.

He's due in court tomorrow for a hearing on the DUI charge.

Hey 333 - you hate illegals so much I would expect you to be praising your president for the pace at which he is deporting them:

Once again, Repubs are all talk and Dems actually have to do the work

President Barack Obama says he backs immigration reform, announcing last month an initiative to ease deportation policies, but he has sent home more than 1 million illegal immigrants in 2 1/2 years — on pace to deport more in one term than George W. Bush did in two[/u]

President Obama’s uncle wants OUI case tossed
By Marie Szaniszlo
Thursday, November 17, 2011 - Updated 11 minutes ago

President Obama’s illegal alien half-uncle argued in court today his arrest on a drunken driving charge this summer violated his constitutional rights and he wants evidence suppressed and the case thrown out.

Onyango Obama’s lawyer filed a motion to suppress in Framingham District Court today, claiming he questions the legality of the illegal alien’s Aug. 24 arrest on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and whether the arrest violated Obama’s Fourth Amendment rights against unlawful search and seizure.

The motion is to suppress the entire traffic stop by police that night, on claims Obama was not committing any motor vehicle violations that night at 7.

Obama blew a .14 on the Breathalyzer, police reported, well above the legal limit of .08.

Obama, a liquor store clerk who entered the United States illegally from Kenya and has defied a deportation order for nearly two decades, is accused of driving drunk and nearly crashing in to an unmarked Framingham police cruiser.

Obama is the half-brother of President Obama’s father.

A hearing on the motion is scheduled for Jan. 12. Obama, who is 67 years old and was called “Uncle Omar” by the president in his book “Dreams From My Father,” has pleaded not guilty.

At last report, Obama had resumed work at Conti Liquors in Framingham after his release from custody
